  9. alwashin This is a county list solely for the discussion of all things related to the history and genealogy of Washington Co. and the people who made it what it is today. It was the first county organized in what would later become Alabama, as settlers moved westward after the American Revolutionary War. Washington County is the site of St. Stephens, the first territorial capital of Alabama. The county was named in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
  10. aus-nsw-manning-valley The areas covered will be expanded when I have a chance but it makes sense to cover the regions covered by the Manning Wallamba Family History Society. This mailing list is not intended to replace the work done by the Manning Wallamba FHS (of which I'm a member), their Facebook Page or other options. This is for those people who sometimes prefer simple emails via Rootsweb as one of their preferred forums. Your List admin - I am NOT an expert in things relating to the Manning Valley BUT I was born at the Manning River District Hospital AND I can trace my ancestors back to 1852 in the region. I have done a lot of research but need to do heaps more. I am a great supporter of family history groups and local history groups and do not apologise for supporting them and I encourage others to do similar as they may have the information needed to break down brick walls. I am also a great believer in helping others - if members on this list can offer constructive advice or local knowledge - then let's sha

  16. criminalgenealogy Criminal genealogy is all about tracing the roots of known and unknown outlaws and how they may be related to us. Questions to ask are: Does the tendency for criminal acts and crimes tend to appear more often in one family as opposed to say, the general population? Is there any correlation between say cousins, and close relatives marrying/interbreeding and the tendency to have offspring who break the law? The general idea of criminals made me think there is a need for a list where we can safely, without others criticizing us, research this particular subject. I will be sending out some lines that I have researched and we can share our knowledge. Just for the record, when I was constructing my family tree I found Lizzie Borden and Ted Bundy. And I am sure there are others and some I suspect of nefarious deeds.
