I am looking for help with the ancestry of the following. I am totally confused by all the Zimmermans in Maxatawny, Berks, PA: Johann Georg Zimmerman was born on 9 February 1765 at Maxatawny, Berks, PA. He married Susanna Margareta Strickler, daughter of Leonard Strickler and Catharine Stumpf ?, on 8 July 1783 at Tulpehocken, Berks, PA. In 1802, John George Zimmerman moved from Tulpehocken, Berks County to Smithfield with his family and purchased property from Daniel Shoemaker, consisting of a farm and a grist/saw mill located on Marshall's Creek, at what is now Branchville. The original grist mill stood about 130 yards from the new mill and had two stone runs. In 1815 he took the old mill down and built a new stone grist mill, with three stone runs (It was destroyed by fire in 1913). His business was carried on by his family, consisting of 14 children, twelve of whom grew to adulthood. He died on 20 October 1828 at Smithfield, Monroe, PA, at age 63. He was buried after 20 October 1828 at Smithfield, Monroe, PA. Family Group Subject* Johann Georg ZIMMERMAN Birth* 09 Feb 1765 Maxatawny, PA. Death* 20 Oct 1828 Smithfield, PA.
