Copyright 2004. All rights reserved. Ralph Zimmerman 1916-2004 Ralph W. Zimmerman, 87, of Cheyenne, died Jan. 9 at Life Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was born March 25, 1916, to Earl and Louella Zimmerman of Cheyenne. He was raised on the family homestead along with a brother and two sisters. After he married Laura Palmer in December 1941, he developed a family farming and ranching partnership with his parents. Zimmerman and his wife raised cattle, wheat and two sons north of town. Zimmerman will be remembered as a good neighbor and a cowboy that took good care of his livestock, land and equipment. His hobbies included fishing with close friends, playing cards on cold winter nights and sharing many stories of community barn dances that he attended years earlier. Zimmerman spent many hours in his shop, designing and building equipment to aid his ranching operation. He later extended his welding and design talent to cowboy art, exhibiting and selling at local craft shows. Many families will long enjoy his unique work. He is survived by his wife, Laura of Cheyenne; two sons, Gerald of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Carl of Grand Junction, Colo.; a borther, Claude "Mike" of Redding, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Holmes of Cheyenne and Mrs. Ralph Faber of Montrose, Colo.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Friends may contribute to Meals on Wheels or a charity of their choice in lieu of flowers. Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Zimmerman.
