His father is one of the leading farmers of Fulton county where he owns a fine farm of four hundred acres of land. The grandfather of James A Zimmerman, George Zimmerman, born in Pennsylvania and was in his day one of the leading farmers and merchants of Fulton till his death in 1867. Jacob Zimmerman, the great grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born in Pennsylvania making the Zimmerman family one of the earliest that settled in Pennsylvania. He was of German origin and a farmer and miller of Franklin county. J A Zimerman's maternal grandfather, Micheal Houck, was also of German extraction and followed farming in Franklin county. James A Zimmerman was born in Fulton county, Penna, February 27, 1851. Reared on the farm, educated in the common schools of his native county and at the Normal School at Shippensburg, Penna. He afterwards graduated from the commercial college at Williamsport, Penna, in 1876. At the age of twenty years he began teaching district school in Fulton and Lycoming counties. In 1881 he went to Altoona where he was engaged as a teacher in the commercial college. He continued to teach therein till 1883 when he located at Connellsville and started in the grocery business, and has been very successful in building up one of the most paying mercantile businesses at Connellsville. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, of the Masonic fraternity, of the Knights of Pythias, of the Senior Order of American Mechanics, of the Heptasophs and is a republican. He was married in 1884 to Miss Carrie Fields of Hancock, Maryland. They have one child: Etta Zimmerman. Mr Zimmerman is a stockholder in the Connellsville Flint and Glass Works and is also interested in a loan association at Minneapolis, Minnesota. He owns considerable property at Garden City, Kansas, and is one of the most enterprising and progressive young businessmen of the county. On the 1880 census David's mom is living with them her name is Susan, she's a widow 61 yrs old b in PA both her parents PA as well. David & Jane had the following kids: Alma b. Jun 1881, Ira b. Jul 1882, Ella b. Aug 1884, Simeon b. Dec 1886, Herbert b. Apr 1890, Dorsey b. Feb 1892 They mostly satyed in Richland County, OH after married and the boys did too. Any leads on their descendents? Glenda: I would like to know if you have a James Zimmerman married to my cousin, Metha Scott between the years of 1910-1920. Metha lived around Omaha Nebraska in 1910 and I find her with her son, Ernest Scott in a 1916, picture. I don't know if Zimmerman was married to her at that time. Metha is in California in 1942. I can not find a death on Zimmerman because so many and I do not have a middle name to shorten the search. Any information for me?
