I appreciate you posting the Pike County marriages! (six of them belong to my line) Would also be interested in the Auglaize county marriages...thanks, Kathy. Diana
As a newcomer to the scene, I am interested in anything I can find on Zimmermans. By the time I was old enough to get interested in this, my father and mother were deceased, as well as 90% of my other relatives. All I have so far is the fact my grandfather was Milton Zimmerman and his wife was Josephine. They died at Rulo Nebraska in 48 and 51 respectively. Possibly Josephine was a Fausher(SP) I would appreciate any information anyone might have. -----Original Message----- From: Lininger <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, June 24, 1999 5:35 PM Subject: [ZIMMERMAN-L] Re: John ZIMMERMAN & Pike Co Marriages >This is my third try at posting this, so I'm sorry if you are getting repeat messages. > >Linda, > >My Zimmerman line is also from Pike County, OH. This is my third try at posting this, so I'm sorry if you are getting repeat messages. Linda, My Zimmerman line is also from Pike County, OH. My gggrandfather, John Zimmerman married Elizabeth Mossbarger in Pike County on Sept. 16, 1852. I don't know anything about John's siblings or parents. The family moved to Auglaize Co. in the early 1870's, I believe. Do you know anything about him? Here's a listing of Pike Co. ZIMMERMAN marriages from 1815-1915. Maybe they'll help someone. I have a "Zimmermann" from NordRhien Westfalen/ Lipp in Prussia (Minden and Bielefeld). Your spelling for Westphalia is more or less a Americanize spelling. There may be a connect. I have a Julian C Zimmermann m. to Johann F. Grune, the town Gate-Keeper in Minden Prussia (Germany) abt 1826.

It continues to amaze me!...these Zimmermans of Ohio (1830-now) residing in Hocking,Pike,Pickaway, Ross and Fayette Counties. And I continue to somewhat believe they are connected somehow, yet I surely have spent a great deal of time just trying to sort them out. Particularly who is connected to: John Wesley ZIMMERMAN (b.1849-51? Ohio) and his son, Benjamin Zimmerman (b.1871, Pike Co, Ohio) (d.1955, Fayette, Ohio) Their family members continue to escape me! There is a cemetary in Fayette County, Marion Twp called Bates-Gamble Cemetary where there are several (est. a dozen!) "Zimmermans" are buried, however cannot get my hands on cemetary documents from the caretaker! Have tried many different ways to get access, including visiting there...but no luck. Any suggestions? Appreciate any new ideas on how I could gain access to these records. Diana

My grandmother was Sylvia Ward and married Harvey Zimmerman, around 1900. They lived in south eastern Ohio, near Wellston. If I can help more, let me know....I am just starting on researching my family ,so my info is sketchy. JohnZimmerman in AZ, formerly of Wellston,Ohio

Dear Linda, How sweet of you to send me what you had! Do you know whether John had a brother (uncle, cousin) named Philip? It almost seems as if the Zimmermans were the Smiths of Baden! Do you have any suggestions for me regarding searching in Baden records? Thanks for your kindness. Robyn
I also have ZIMMERMAN from SW Ohio. ZIMMERMANs married to RETTIG, SCHOCH and VanHOLLAND. Can you help me? Jim Rettig
Robyn, No, don't know what John's brother's names were, but there was no Philip in the family, and as German's used strict naming patterns, I doubt if there was a Phillip. As far as searching in Baden, I didn't do it, a cousin who lives in Salt Lake City did it. As the LDS FHC has so many German records, I would start there. I found all my Zimmerman information by making contact of a distant cousin whose mother did genealogy for the whole town where they lived, henceforth, everything was more or less first hand. But I will have to admit I was truly blessed to ever have found her. Good hunting, Linda
Robyn, I, too, have a very long Zimmerman line from Baden, Germany, but don't think we connect. Mine line is John Zimmerman, married Christine Mido in Germany. He migrated to Pike Co., OH with his brothers where he worked for 4 years to earn enough money to bring Christine and their two children over here. They then moved to McDonough Co., IL and stayed to raise their children. Descendants still live on the home place, as well as other family homes in the area. One thing about German's is that they came, and they stayed in one place. Good luck on your search, and drop me a line if you need any names, places, etc. Linda Bingham Gardner Atlanta, GA
