Particularly so in view of our slow start. This was our first attempt at this. Next year it will be better. At the No. 1 session Friday night there were just us Orangerburghers talking to ourselves. Saturday morning was much better. Two German college students who were visiting here in Orangeburg helped us at a couple of tables. They live in Albstadt, Germany, which is about 50 miles from Sohnstetten. They were a big help with the language, the people, and where everything is. Saturday, we had about six Zeigler/Segler researchers from SC and as far away as FLA and CAL. Needless to say there were many connections, finds and exchanges of information. Four of us from SC have already gathered for a Mini-Zeigler-Worktable to carry on the information swap that was started. Oops, back to Weiden. The only Weiden that I could find on my map (only large towns) was 20 KM from the Chech border and 80 KM east-north-east of Nurnberg which is quite a distance from Sohnstetten. There may be another Weiden elsewhere? The German historians say that the first of the Zeigler name were from Dresden, also near the Chech border. We will have to get our Sohnstetten and Weiden Zeiglers sorted out before we can really start on Dresden. Richard, please let me hear from you. Oburg Bob H. _____

    1. ZEIGLER, JACOB 1746>Germany>PA>VA
    2. Is there anyone in Zeigler/Ziegler Land who has a handle on all of the Jacobs? My line is from both Esther and John, children of Jacob who immigrated from Germany in 1746 on the ship Ann Galley. Jacob m Esther Buckwalter on 13 Jan 1775. I seem to be getting all tangled up in the family of a John Jacob Ziegler who m Elizabeth Motz on 30 Jun 1782. Also, is there anyone with proof that Jacob who m Esther Buckwalter was the Jacob who immigrated in 1746 on Ann Galley. Any help appreciated. Anne Nelson (OK) GTNEL@aol.com

    3. From JAZ Earl, Linda, Mary or anyone I am leaving out please let me know if you don' t have my family tree. I have 2491 names in it now and if you see something I am missing please let me know. Also if it appears to be inaccurate let me know and I'll research it further. William Ziegler that married Rebecca Stewart had 2 sons and 4 daughters, moved to Virginia in 1821, being the first Zeigler family to come to Tenn., settled and died in Meigs Co., age 62 years. (according to Christan Farrell Ziegler that died in 1995). Please send me the 13 children and the other 10 that I am missing. Also if you all could please let me know how you are related to the tree please let me know. Earl Thanks for all the info, but I still do not know how you are related yet. Anyone who needs a copy of my tree let me know how your computer will accept it and I'll try to send it to you. I know I don't have much input to the group but at least I hope I can put all my information out on the table and try to have supporting references if requested. Also I please let me know if you all are getting my mail that I am sending thru rootsweb. If I spell Ziegler as Zeigler thats the way it was given to me, but I always think it should be Ziegler. 3. Hi, I got a copy of some estate papers of John ZEIGLER in Richland Co., OH only to discover that it was not my John ZEIGLER, nor was it directly related to Ohio. It seems that some of the Children sued one of the Guardians (Peter OPP, then a resident of OH) for their share of the estate (which it seems he thought was his for taking of the kids). At any rate, I thought it might be useful to someone, so I have included here some of the more pertinant information. John died in 1814. The suit was in 1833- 1835. In the papers it speaks of John dying intestate, however there is also a copy of the will. I am not sure what that means. The originals are in Manchester, Ohio. Anyway, I hope this is helpful to someone. - Mike White ======================================================================= John ZEIGLER of West Manchester township, York Co, PA. d. c Oct-Dec 1814 PA Children: George, Sarah, Polly, John, Jacob, Daniel, Catharine, Lydia, Elizabeth, Adam, Samuel and Matilda [John ZEIGLER]: Owned 132 acres ajoining lands of Peter OPP, Andrew STAUCH, Jacob SMYSERS?, Martin ZIGLER, Michael TESLA and John SHAFER. 3. Results of my ZIEGLER research show the following - not much. Eitel ZIEGLER married Catherine MOEHANN Their son: Joachin Christoph ZIEGLER b 24 May 1724 in Germany, d 25 May 1760. (?) Christina WESSELL, daughter of Bartold WESSELL Their daughter: Sophia Helen ZIEGLER b 13 April 1761 in Lippe, Horn Co., Germany died 16 Sept 1852 in Adams Co., PA buriel in Upper Bermudian Cem. Adams County, PA. She married on 6 Feb 1780 in Hanover, York Co., PA John LEAS II, son of John LEAS I. It is a family tradition that when they married she could speak no English and he could speak no German. When Sophia applied for a widow's pension, she wasn't sure of the dates, so that may be the discrepency in her father's death and her birth. My ancestor, George Leas was one of their 14 children. Does anyone know of these ZIEGLERS? I can share LEAS, but the above is all I have on the ZIEGLERS. Thanks. Clarice Mitchell

    3. from Jack And Lorraine 684 Lison Ave SE Rio Rancho NM 87124 email zieglerj2@hotmail.com Hi everyone. My printer is in the shop and its got me at a standstill. I am interested in getting a scanner maybe Hewlett Packard for about 285.00. At least thats what they paid for one where I work at Kirtland Air Force Base. I sure would like to know how everyone I am writing to is related to the Jacob family tree and if you could send pictures of all your family members. I have a place in Family tree maker that allows pictures to be inserted. I know I haven't sent allot of requested information out, but soon as I get my scanner I will put it all directly in to the family tree maker for everyone. I was talking to my uncle Dewey who I am trying to get to hook up to the internet. He says the name Yohand Lopold Ziegler was probably Johann Lopold Ziegler. I know there are thousands of Johanns in Germany so its a thought to consider. Of course we need to find a reference. Speaking of references, I was talking to Dewey Mann and he said most of the information in our tree came from Christian Farrell Ziegler born 1906 and died 1995. Christian Farrell Ziegler Was called Cricket and she had mentioned that she remembered sitting on her great grandfathers lap when she was about 4 years old and he would tell her lots of old stories. Her father was William Giboney Ziegler and her grandfather was Jacob August Ziegler who was married to Annabella Gibboney. The letters found in the attic at 908 Boylston St in Chattanoga Tennessee were written during the Civil War. They were written in one color of ink and the turned sideways and written in another color ink on top to save paper. Dr. Hayme and six students deciphered them and sent Dewey and Charolet a copy and a copy to myself (Jack). I have typed about half of them in MS Word out of 103 pages of them. As soon as I get a scanner I'll rescan them all exactly as presented, and resend them out to everyone. If you can send me copies of your trees as attachments please do so, I am sure we all would find interesting information that we need to add to our trees. I am so glad I have found this group and I would like to visit each of you and find out what Ive missed all these years. Yours truely Jack and Lorriane Ziegler ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

The bad news is I am in the midst of bringing my ledger sheet size Michael Zeigler (c1738 Shonstetten, Germany - 1809 Bamberg, SC) chart up to date for our 3 & 4 Oct. Oktoberfest meeting. We have a Zeigler family history work table planned. Hopefully we will hammer out all of the wrinkles from this and other charts. The bad news is all of my stuff is still hard copy with no scanner. If you will send me your address I will send a revised copy of this chart. If you like it, please send what you have on this line. I am new at the computer. It will take me forever to get everything into the computer. Do you have any tips on getting stuff out of the corrugated boxes and on to the disk? I have Michael Zeigler, Jr. (ca. 1776). Moved with wife & children to Mississippi prior to 1810 (pencil note 2m, 1f, 1800 Census). On 2 Feb. 1801 he witnessed a deed in Bamberg Co., SC. On 11 Oct. 1811 (to Nicoholas Baggett) and on 16 Apr. 1812 (to Jacob Redgett) Michael Zeigler (Jr.) and John Zeigler of Adams Co., Miss. Territory, gave power of attorney to sue his brother Conrad Zeigler and Jacob Ridgdill, administrators of the estate of their father, Michael Zeigler, Sr. There will be others at the work table Saturday who will have more on this Miss. Zeigler family. We do not know of anyone coming that knows too much about the Zieglers in Germany in the 1700's. We keep hoping. Do you know of anyone who has done research on the Zieglers in Germany? Oburg Bob H. _____
