    1. Frederick & David Ziegler
    2. Linda Bischoff
    3. Hello again! I have had a couple of replies concerning Frederick Ziegler and his son David Ziegler. The following are names of children of Frederick & his wife Elizabeth Bear Ziegler: Adam Ziegler, b. abt 1813 (Adam is a guess); David Ziegler, b. 7 Nov 1814 (my ancestor); Maria Ziegler, b 9 Dec 1815; Catherine Ziegler b. 8 Aug 1817; Elisabeth Ziegler b. 29 Sep 1818; Carl Ziegler b. 18 Oct 1820 (he had a son named Samuel Zielger, I believe); Rebecca Ziegler b 4 Mar 1822; Lea Ziegler b. 8 Oct 1827. (All but Adam & Lea were baptised in the Bobbenmyer Church in Cumberland Co.) Adam Ziegler, David Ziegler, and Samuel (son of Carl) Ziegler were all in Rock Island County Illinois after 1850. Adam's wife's name was Lydia Reed (am not sure that they were married in PA, but most likely were). There was also a John Ziegler in Rock Island County, but I can't find anything that makes me believe that John was related to the other three. The reason that I have for including Adam Ziegler in this family is because I found his name in confirmation list of Bobbenmyer Church in Cumberland County. They lived in Newville area. Then there were references in the Rock Island newspapers to my Ziegler family visiting with cousins, who could only be children of Adam Ziegler. Adam Ziegler and his wife, Lydia, had a family of twin daughters & 10 boys; 9 of them fought in the Civil War -- the other one died young. From what I understand, David's mother, Elizabeth Ziegler, died prior to 1850 and is buried in Carlisle. I think his father remarried, since I found a Frederick Ziegler on the 1860 census with wife named Mary. The name Philip Ziegler is mentioned in the Bobbenmyer church records; I do not know if Philip Ziegler is the father of Frederick. If I could find the evidence of Philip Ziegler and family having come from York Co. PA, I could make a possible connection. I have found in a York County church index that a Philip Ziegler and his wife Catherine, had a son named Frederick who was born 1788 in North Coderus Township. That date would certainly fit for the age of Frederick of Cumberland Co. But the name Ziegler is so common in that area, and the name Frederick also, that I have hesitated to draw conclusions. Thanks so much for the replies, and any other help will be appreciated. Linda Bischoff

    3. Hello! I am new to this Ziegler list. Am looking for information that would connect Frederick Ziegler of Cumberland County PA to the Zieglers in York county. My ancestor, David Ziegler was born 1814 in Cumberland Co. son of Frederick Ziegler and Elizabeth Bear Ziegler. David eventually became a tailor and moved to Port Byron IL. He married Sarah Ann Swisher in PA, and they lived for a time in Indiana Co. PA before going to IL. According to a biography, David's grandfather Ziegler was born in York Co, PA. No mention of grandfather Ziegler's first name. His grandfather Bear was said to have been born in Berks County, PA. Thanks for your help! Linda Bischoff

    2. Did I miss a note somewhere? It sounds like someone was asking about a Jennie Buckwalter. Who is she. Anyway, I checked out that George Jacob Ziegler on the Ancestry page. I just checked a couple of the children, and they don't have the same spouses we have for them. So, I don't think he is our Jacob. Linda

    2. Hi! I also have been trying to find some way to tie the families together. I got a lot of BUCKWALTER (notice this spelling) from a researcher in Chester Co., PA Most of it was was Earl Cook had from Mr. Cummings genealogy - but she also had later generations - but hers did not include a Jennie Buckwalter - so I don't have anything on that name at all. There is a name I found when looking up Jacob Zeigler/ Ziegler. I was on the Ancestry Homepage & it came up with a George Jacob Ziegler & listed his children: Elizabeth Magdalena Anne Isaac Johanna Abraham Mary However when I tried to download this family - i got junk because I have a MAC & it was done on an IBM - so someone who has an IBM should go look at that & see what's in there. Magdalena is not that common of a name. It c/b worth looking into. Mary

    3. From JAZ I have been digging into a family tree on the internet and this is the info that may be worth considering. I havent done any checking on this but a Bookwalter may tie these Ziegler groups together some how. If anyone has anything please let me know. I have quit submitting to WFT because I know I put a lot of names and references in my tree. If I see any request to leave info within the group only I will honor these request from now on. Sorry if I sent anything out that shouldnt have been sent out. Here is my info on descendants of Nicholas; I only took it through 3 gens. As you can see there are numerous Jacobs, but they were all born here except for maybe the #2 Jacob who would have been one of Nicholas' sons but after the date of birth of your Jacob. There is a reference also though that in about 1733 Phillip, John George and Jacob were listed in the 24 heads of family. John George and Philip coming to America in 1727, but no mention of the Jacob. These three are assummed to be related somehow to Nicholas, but it doesn't say how. Here is what I have on Bookwalter. I only have two references, one being very vague. "E.D. Ziegler, Pfoutz Valley born Nove 13, 1858 married Jennie Bookwalter. They had children Owen Paul Ziegler and Tasie Ziegler. Mrs. Louis Bookwalter Ziegler has a home in Newport, PA." The source of the above info is from a Ziegler Genealogy compiled information published in 1935 about the descendents of Nicholas, Michael and Peter. I suspect at this point this won't help you much but if run across any of them in your research let me know. I do get the Ziegler mail from the rootsweb, and am sorting through 2 months of emails since I was away. A copy of the Heidenheim area map is on the way via US Airmail to you and Dolly. Cost about fifty cents for stamp, copy etc. Since Richard sent me the family chart, I'm even with him. Since Dolly did all of the work, I'm even with her. Now, you owe me fifty cents. Don't send cash or your credit card number. Please, and I say again, please send me via US mail or e-mail fifty cents worth of Wurttemberg and Ziegler information that you get from your Vancouver cousin. I am sending a copy of this e-mail to our Orangeburg German Swiss Genealogical Society List. For the documentationist let me say the map shows the tiny village of Shonstetten believed to be the source of the SC Zieglers/Zeiglers/Seiglers and the tiny village of Weidenstetten which may be the village of Weiden the birthplace of your Georg Jacob Ziegler (1848 - 1932 OR). - Best regards, Orangeburg Robert H. _____ ********************************************************* Robert D. Dolly did a good job and a lot of work. I do not see where we could make a connection between your and our Zieglers. With ours the whole family came over here in 1753 from Grandpa on down to a 6 months old baby. We have no idea if any relations remained. I am interested in learning all I can about Wurttemberg, its people, its history, etc., etc. We have located a detailed map that shows Sohnstetten in Wurttemberg. First, let's correct its location to: 61 KM east south east of Stuttgart or 12 KM west of Heidenheim on road way 466. I will airmail a 8 1/2 x 11 copy of that area of the map. When it gets there look 12 KM south of Sohnstetten and you will find a smaller village named Weidenstetten. I wonder, could this be your Weiden that we can't find on any map. I notice the name of 15 or 20 villages in the area end in stetten: Scharenstetten, Westerstetten, Breimerstetten, Neenstetten, Mergeistetten and Stetten ob Lontel (on the Lone River). Stetten is not in my German - English dictionary. I will send a copy of this to Thomas Kemmer who may help us on this. He has a Swabian into English web site. A surprise for me was another village 5 KM or so south on Weidenstetten named Breitingen. It appears to contain the surname Breitling. Oliver Breitling from east of Cologne, Germany has just sent the list a query on this name What a coincidence? I may be reading the map wrong. It is not to clear. Best regards, Oburg Bob H. _____

    2. Thanks to those who wrote and gave me helpful hints. They are appreciated. My grandfather, George W. Myers was born March 1888 in Greenfield, Ohio; so the Ziegler/Zeigler I'm looking for was his mother, Lena Ziegler born 1840 or in that time frame. The John G. Ziegler was Lena's father, so born late 1780 or so. Unfortunately this is best guesses on my part, except for G. W. Myers. Even spelling of name is written two ways in only info I have - Ziegler/Zeigler. Thanks for helping. Mary Lou

Texas should be saluted for their work on this project. The highway department has converted the area into a park like atmosphere, a beautiful place to be, dead or alive. The beautiful part that you family history researchers will like is the visitor's center that includes a www website. Many of the Texas notables and war veterans were already in this cemetery. Now, when a notable war veteran's monument ends up in the middle of I-99, they move it here. Their web site has downloadable family history information on those buried here and other veterans and notables. If you have ancestors that may have been in Texas in that period check this website out at: http:www.gsc.state.tx.us/statecemetery/ Send e-mail queries to: webmaster: <statecemetery@gsc.state.tx.us> If you don't find yours, send a query. This site is under construction but it is still worth a try. Oburg Bob H. _____
