Virginia Marie Elfe Zeiger,106, of Charleston, a former teacher died Sunday in a local nursing home. The funeral will be a 11 A.M. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial directed by McAlister's Funeral Home, Will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Mrs Ziegler was born in Charleston, a daughter of Bejamin Elfe and Clara Alicia Follin Elfe. She attended Memminger Normal School. She waas a member of the DAR. She was a member of Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and was the widow of John A.Zeigler. Surving are two sons, John A. Zeigler Jr of Charleston and William B. Ziegler of Columbia; a daughter, Virginia Z. Potter of Charleston; 11 Grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren;and 17 great great grandchildren. Take Care! He too ended up in Washington state, passing away July 19, 1955 in Stanwood, Washington. How he got from the Eastern Seaboard to the West Coast, I do not know. I understand his ancestors in Nova Scotia often traveled up and down the Eastern coast (Canada and US) in their fishing boats. My grandfather did not continue the fishing trade in Washington. Oprated saws in lumber mills and eventually lost 3 fingers on one hand in a sawmill accident. I've drifted enough. I have never heard of your Ziegler. But find it interesting that there is another Ziegler family around here somewhere. (Ziegler is my mother's maiden name.) I am looking for Flora Ziegler, born abt 1881 in Kansas. Her parents were Frank (born 1841 in England) and Eleanor B (born 1853 in Kansas). Flora married Timothy Keller Adams abt 1906 probably in Missouri (They are on the 1920 Barton Co MO census). Family history says there was Pottawatomie Indian blood in this family.
