Thanks Jack for the source. This is very interesting - after this is interpreted & all the data extracted from that source someone should write to York Co, PA & have them do a look-up with the new information. It may help straighten out this family. There were so many Zeiglers in PA at that time, it is so confusing. It would be wonderful if anyone found out who left PA with Jacob to go to GA with the Mill equipment., & who kept on going & who stayed in VA. It would be good to be able to find Jacob's siblings & follow their descendants too. Mary
>From Jack Allen Ziegler Hello, my reference was found at the Latter Days Saints (LDS) Family History Microfilm # 1056567 German Records. Dewey Mann found the Film and he is paying to have it interpreted because its in German. If any of you have Family Tree Maker 4.0 I will send you a copy of my tree on disk so we can make comparisons. I have a pkzip program that I can give you also and you can unzip the file and view it. I also found out Gal was Gall. Dewey Mann is still having the Microfilm interpreted and the info I provided was what Dewey picked out before it was interpreted so there will be more. I hope you all are still getting my mail if your address changed please let me know. I just skimmed my mail so if you have additional info that I didnt show I'll send it to Dewey and we will work on it. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Someone has sent me the following quotation from The Gray Family and Allied Lines from page 191 to 192: "On his last visit to America in 1760, Count Zintendorf, under the direction of the General Board of United Brethen, had recommended the name of Salem [NC}. on the 6th of Jan, 1766, the 1st tree was felled for the 1st house in Salem, and on the 19th of Feb, 1766, four newly arrived immigrants from Europe and 43 residencts of Bethseda, occupied the house --- a log hut still standing and now used as part of Mr. Shaffner's potter shop. On the 20th of February, the place was surveyed and this public square was laid out. In June 1766, the corner stone was laid for the family house, and in August the building was completed. The 1st settlers were Gottfried Praetzel, Neils Paterson, Jems Schmidt, Jns. Birkhead, Gorge Holder, Jacob Steiner, Michael Ziegler, Melchoir Rasp." =====++===== Our Michael Ziegler (1738-1809), as a single man from Charleston, SC, was near here in the Indian Wars in 1760. The thought has crossed my mind that while there maybe Michael may have checked out Salem, NC as a place to live before returning to Charleston. This is highly unlikely, but soldiers did do this. Does anyone have information on this Michael and his family? Bob H. ___
I am trying to find more information about Mary Zeigler, born 1815 in South Carolina. She married John G. Howell, moving with him to Florida. Her mother's name may have been Abigail. At least this is what the gravestones lead me to believe. I'd appreciate any additional information. Kathy Lee kmljtl@gte.net
