    1. Re: [YOUNGER] Joshua Younger/Halifax Younger question?
    2. Somebody was looking for "Phoeba" Younger a long time ago on this forum. I think I've found her. Nov. 24 1793 Abstract of North Carolina Wills p. 287: Younger, David Lee, Jessie Lee, Joel Lee, Aaron Lee, Nancy, Farby (Pheraba). Brownie

    3. Hey Brownie, That's me (Steve Yerby) that is still looking for Phoeba/Pheba Jane Younger. The one listed here is not mine. My Pheba Jane Younger was born about 1841 in Tennessee. To date we've not been able to find her listed with a family, although we do have her listed as "wife" in an 1860 Texas Co., MO census, and also an 1870 Jacksonport, AR census. Pheba's maiden name was on Newton GROSS' death certificate. We're guessing that she was married probably in Arkansas about 1859, to James M. GROSS. Their first child, Newton Montgomery GROSS was born Apr.18, 1860 MO, possibly Texas Co., MO. Long story short, Pheba Jane YOUNGER is yet to be found in an 1850 census. Skipped over?? Family re-locating during census time?? Too remote of an area to have heard about census being taken?? Endless possibilities I guess. Anyway, I feel like Jacksonport AR area may be some sort of clue as to where her YOUNGER family may have settled, either in that particular area, or nearby. James M. GROSS enlisted in the Confederate States Army in that same general area of Arkansas in the early years of the Civil War. And as most everyone else on the YOUNGER list, we've also been told that "we are kin" to the YOUNGER BROTHERS/JAMES-YOUNGER GANG, not proven. Jacksonport, AR is near Newport, Jackson Co., AR & some of the neighboring counties there are Independence, Stone, & Izard counties. If my memory is any good, I seem to remember at least Independence & Stone Counties showing up on this list with YOUNGER families. Pheba Jane YOUNGER, 1841 TN married James M. GROSS, Sept.15, 1837, AL - 1873, Texas Co., MO **{James 2nd marriage was to Mary E. VANDIVER, July 14, 1872, Texas Co., MO}** Pheba & James' children are; Newton Montgomery GROSS, Apr.18, 1860, MO - Nov.21, 1931, Centralia, Lewis Co., WA Claibourne F. Jackson GROSS, Dec.27, 1863, Texas Co., MO - Aug.21, 1939, Biggers, Randolph Co., AR (my line) An interesting side note, the YOUNGER's were part of Quantrill's Raiders during the Civil War, and there were also VANDIVER's mustered in with the Raiders. I've seen an internet site that states the YOUNGER's & VANDIVER's were somehow cousins. I personally haven't gotten into these lines of family as I've been stalled out on Pheba Jane Younger, & Mary E. Vandiver. A by-line for James M. GROSS is that he was arrested & suspected of murder in Texas County, MO in 1867. Not sure how that turned out as it was recorded at the end of that particular court record book, and the continuance was made in a new book. This could possibly explain how or why they ended up for a time in Arkansas in the late(?) 1860's & 1870. I still need to research some more on this particular item of information. Oh & Brownie, I also remember you sending me something via the YOUNGER list about a Pheba Jane GROSS, divorced & living "somewhere" during the late 1800's? - early 1900's?, but due to some computer glitch, the info somehow got eaten alive by this wonderful contraption, that & I had to start everything from scratch. Could you maybe pass that along again please when you get it handy?? No hurry tho. Thanks, Steve Yerby ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]>
