    1. [YOUNGER] Re Scottish Church Records
    2. Before the advent of computers in the Family History Centers these records were available on microfiche. If you are fortune enough to go to a History Center that never throws anything away you probably can find those microfiche, take the appropriate name to the printer and print them out. I find using these print outs at home very advantageous over using the CD version in the library. They contain the same information. These records date from about 1855 backward to the 1500s. Civil registration began in 1855. You can order a microfilm of the original church records and sometimes find more information in the church register. Perhaps someone can answer this. Does the computer IGI that we access at home contain those Scottish Church Records? I think it does. I researched a family that immigrated 1900 to NYC, found them on 1881 and 1891 Scottish census and followed what appeared to be their ancestry on these Scottish Church Records, and earlier census. I subscribed to GRO online for a short time to prove or disprove my guesses -- they were surprisingly accurate. GRO is the Government Record Office. It has a web site to which one can subscribe (summer 2004 the cost is £6. approximately $9.00 for calendar 48 hours, and can be charged to a credit card) in order to access civil registration marriage, birth and death records. That cost includes so many "points" which can be applied to printing out documents. At that time most of the online records were post 1855. Pat Finnell
