Wilma, That is what I was wondering about...lol. If they ever found him what did they do with him.And if they did NOT find him.How do we get the date of Death as 1834 ? It would be date of disappearance....lol. And if he was not buried...what about a memorial stone ? Was one ever made or found ? It was thinking about a will for him, that got me thinking. Was he declared dead ? What happened ? Oh so many questions. In the papers I sent you from the RLDS on the baptisims for the dead. I noticed that not one of them....Not even Mary "Polly" Nall Younger had one done for Thomas. Yet they had them done for Aunts,Uncles,Siblings & a few cousins. The dates of all the baptisims for the dead are 1841 . I find that strange. Does anyone have a real record of death for Thomas? Any kind of paper that gives the date of death as 1834? Anything ??? Perhaps, old Thomas just disappeared....Mom and Dad had a friend who was a professor at Austin College. His name was Euclid Fant. Well, ole' Euclid drove to Dallas one day and was never seen nor heard from again. His daughter was my sister's age. I got in touch with her daughter not too long ago, because I had a letter written by Euclid's wife, and I thought the grandchildren would want it. They never did find out what happened to him...never found one clue. Except for the car parked in the train station parking lot....hmmmmm. Leni, if you focus on finding Thomas hard enough and long enough, a clue will surface one of these days. And, by the way, "down south" could mean Mexico. Brownie, Lol ! I thought about him wandering off to Texas or Mexico with his mules. That was cute :) I just thought there were an awful lot of unanswered questions & maybe this year I would focus a bit more on solving the riddles. Now I end up with more than I started with ! Just my luck :) Leni --------------------------------- The fish are biting. Get more visitors on your site using Yahoo! Search Marketing.

I agree that it is strange a baptism was not done for Thomas - I don't know what the rules were at the time - perhaps you had to have proof of death and there was none? I don't know. And, so far as I know the 1834 date is probably the date he went missing - and since it isn't a firm date, just the year, perhaps it was an estimate made some time afterwards when they had given up on him returning, or when word of the eagle buttons find was received at Mary's home. It's kind of strange that word of the eagle buttons ever got to the family. How would anyone know where to send word if there was no identification on the clothes, and no body was found? All very exceedingly strange. All I've ever seen was a reference to "family lore" about him taking horses south to sell and Mary making him a new coat with shiny gold eagle buttons, and buttons being found in a cave and the assumption that it was him and that he had been killed or died in some sort of accident. If it happened in a populated area, you'd think there would have been some kind of newspaper story written about the body being found in a cave. Of course if it was in a rural area, perhaps word never got far enough to make the news. As to your other questions, I have no idea. I don't know what kind of proof they needed for a death back then, if he had an estate that needed probating, if they even probated wills there at that time. It's all a big mystery.
