My thinking is that somebody needs to camp in Halifax/Essex or at the VA archives for as long as it takes to dig up information. I did some work years ago at the University of VA archives at the UV library. A record found there indicated Thomas married "Mary North"....not Northern....in Essex/ Old Rappahanock. There was a family of Norths who have a history there. I have never known where the "Northern" came from. I have also speculated that there were two Thomases. The Norths from 1692-1726: Abraham m. Sarah Rouzie (Alexander was indentured by Edward Rowzee) 1692; Mary North, widow of William North, married John Mills. Jr. 1706. There are two more in the marriage index of Old Rappahanockm but they're insignificant. Did not Mary Nall marry James Younger? We should definately point out the incorrect info. Unfortuantely, thanks to the "download GEDCOM > upload GEDCOM" method of "genealogy" that has persisted since they first became available online, there is so much duplication of incorrect and undocumented information (aka hearsay) that it's going to be impossible for me to eradicate it. Even if I could get it all cleaned up at FamilySearch, there's no way I could clean it out of every other online repository. When I first set up my database, my line ended at Thomas who died in Halifax. I couldn't prove that he was the same Thomas as the son of Alexander, so I didn't include Alexander. Since then, you all have convinced me that if he isn't Alexander's son, he is at least a grandson. So, what I propose to do is insert a version of documented events as close as I can and supply ample notes to outline an argument as reasonable as possible. I'll also need to insert comments on each bit of unproven or false information indicating why I feel it should be removed. My "disputes" of the other information will remain in the FS system for as long as the information does. This process isn't going to be easy - we're talking about several years worth of submissions and the inertia that goes along with that volume of information, which is why I'm asking for your help. What I need are cited sources of info for Thomas. I'll be scouring our past communications on this list and going over all of my old notes for info, but it would save me a TON of time if you could email me any notes you have off-list. Once I have a solid outline put together, I'll post it here for your review before I go after the online database with my hatchet. I'd like us to be as united in our opinion as possible on this one - call it a gift to our great-grandkids. - Stephen And my records show that Mary "Polly" Nall married Thomas James Younger, son of James Younger and Anna Nash in 1785 in North Carolina. This is Leni's line, if I'm not mistaken. On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:19 AM, <Mbmackie1231@aol.com> wrote: > > Does that mean we shouldn't point out what we think is incorrect? No - Mary Nall married Thomas Younger. I have a photo of her gravestone, which reads "Mary, dau. of John and Mary Nall, and wife of Thomas Younger" born Dec 25, 1768, died Feb. 1861. She is buried in the Younger Cemetery in Cedar Co., MO. I believe most of us from this line think that John Nall's wife was named Martha "Patsy" Glass, but it's always possible he also married someone named Mary. Or else, whoever had the stone engraved, thought her name was Mary. One of those unknown things.
