I slammed a door a few days ago on the possibility of Marcus of King and Queen Co being unnamed son of Alexander (d. c 1726) in his will. I was way off base. I have to reopen that door a bit. If any owned land was not specifically disposed of in a will it fell under the laws of primogeniture and automatically went to the first legal heir. These primogeniture laws were replaced in the 1780s. If you all haven't read the wonderful book "A Place in Time" by Darrett and Anita Rutman, it is well worth the expense of acquiring it (look on Amazon.com or any of the big listers of used books) and the time to read and study it. It is a study of life in Middlesex Co VA 1650-1750. The explicatus that may be offered for this study is not useful for a genealogist's purposes.
