"Tithables of Lancaster County VA, 1654", Virginia Historical Magazine, Vol. 5, p.159 He was listed as a tithable of Lancaster in 1654 (now Essex County) "Cavaliers and Pioneers" by Nell Nugent, p 430 Received a patent on 562 acres in Rappahannock River on 18 Nov. 16 "Wills of Rappanhannock County, VA, 1656-1692" by Sweeney John Mills Written 5 Mar 1682/3, Probated 26 June 1683 - To sons Robert, John, Henry, James - To daughters Martha and Jan Wife mentioned but unnamed Next generation is Robert Mills mentioned in his father's will and named as the father of John Mills, Jr in the deed referenced below. John Mills, Jr. Residence - St Anne's Parish, Essex County VA Will - Essex County VA Records by John Frederick Dorman, p 54 and Essex County VA Will and Deed Book 4, p. 222,223 Written 8 Nov 1716, Probated 17 June 1719 This John Mills is most likely the John Mills, Jr, who was identified in a deed of land to a William Johnson as the grandson of John Mills, Sr and the son of Robert Mills (Essex County VA Wills & deeds Bk 14, p 442) - To son John - all my land only reserving to my loving wife Mary the plantation whereon I now live to be bounded from the road that leads from Mr. Robert Brookes to the church to the upper end of the line, during her natural life. John is to have full liberty over all my land for timber when he shall come to the age of 21 or day of marriage. - To daughter mary Mills. If John should die without heirs my daughter Mary Mills after my wife's death to have that part of my land given to my wife. - To daughter Elizabeth.
