The documented facts are as follows: There was a Joseph Younger who lived in Wilkes Co., NC and married Elizabeth Gray on Feb. 6, 1790. They had 5 children living at the writing of Joseph's will in 1823: William, Joseph, Harrison, Nancy Green and Sookey Dowell. I have a LOT of info on THIS family, but can't find a single child's name on the female lines......yet! End of facts. End of documentation. I have a lot of info on THIS family, but can't find a single child's name on the female lines......yet! Joseph is presumed... and I repeat... presumed.... by probably 90% of all Younger researchers to be the son of Thomas Younger and his unknown 2nd wife. (Wilma, I'm not sure how you put him with Mary Northern, but I guess anything is possible.) We do know that Thomas had a son named Joseph, as Joseph is named in Thomas' will. Based on circumstantial evidence, I'm 90% convinced to join the 90% who feel Joseph is the son of Thomas. The other 10% still considers my Joseph's parentage unknown and will continue to explore any avenue that opens up. I used to say that he fell out of the sky and landed in Wilkes Co! As for Joseph's descendants, I have seen several posted genealogies online for him where I can find as much wrong as right in them. I am the only researcher on this list (that I'm aware of...I asked any others to please stand awhile back, and no one responded) who is a direct descendant to Joseph Younger of Wilkes Co, NC who died in 1823. Therefore, this means a lot to me and I am forever asking for documentation of Joseph's parentage from other researchers and never get any....because there's not any? There are so many Youngers with the same name in the same areas at the same time that sometimes placing children with parents is like playing pin the tail on the donkey! So, pin Joseph where you may, but as his direct descendant, I want the documentation!!!!! (Willie, back me up on this!) There was a Joseph Younger on the 1790 Halifax Co, VA census. He is one factor at this point that keeps me from jumping to 99% certainty that my Joseph is the son of Thomas. Anyone have documentation that identifies Joseph of Halifax with any Younger family??? That would help a lot! :-) I began my quest over 2 years ago by spending 4 hours straight reading posts at the Younger genforum. I found nothing on MY Younger family. I called a cousin who's father researched the family in the 1970's. I picked up his research, including a box of letters and documents that have helped me immensely!! For example, I can place Kanzada Younger of Whitley Co, KY (posts from yesterday) in my family because I have a letter written in her own hand to her mother-in-law, my gr-gr grandmother. We have covered all the known records of Joseph Younger before on the list. No need to rehash all that. But, before the next person publishes some completely erroneous data on this branch of the Younger family, I wanted to set the record straight. (Or as straight as it can be!) Oh, thanks Wilma!! For the record, I don't have a Joseph as a son of James and Anna Nash either...for what it's worth! ;-) Nancy
