I started this when I was 16. Being the oldest grandchild has it's advantages, plus I have been called the family "packrat" as I keep everything, including my baby cowboy boots! :) My son was here last week on his vacation from CA, so I was thrilled to have all 5 of my kids in the same state at the same time. One morning about 3 am they all decided to go thru our keepsakes box, (which has gotten too big to move.) Then there was Dad's Navy box from WWII. A few tears fell, but lots of smiles and memories recaptured. I have a cradle that is about 200 years old, a doll mini quilt and a childs rocking chair which have been handed down in my Carter line. I also have an Indian medicine man necklace that I have no idea where it came from, but all of us kids took it to show and tell in school.... I want to take it to a museum one day and see if they can identify the bones and teeth which are on the 36" pirce of rawhide.
