    1. Re: [YOUNGER] 1785 Heads of Household Halifax VA Alphabetized
    2. Brownie, Absolutely! They ARE two different Josephs! There's no question about it. My question remains... WHY is the Joseph of Halifax Co, VA not believed to be the son of Thomas??????????????? Obviously, it makes for a nicer family tree if you can fill it in with documented descendants (like the Wilkes Co. Joseph). And as someone pointed out earlier, it's not pleasant to have to totally change your data. But, it seems that Joseph in Halifax is a more likely candidate, based on proximity, for the son of Thomas. However, no one seems to have any info about Joseph of Halifax, so he's been thrown out of the mix. I have all my notes that I can use to build a completely circumstantial case for Wilkes Co. Joseph to be the son of Thomas. But it's just that....CIRCUMSTANTIAL. And it ignores the fact that a Joseph Younger lives right under Thomas's nose! If anyone knows anything that legitimately warrants leaving Joseph of Halifax Co. out of this equation, I sure wish they'd share. Thanks for responding Brownie... and that's the end of my "argument". I saved you the energy! :-) In a message dated 8/22/01 6:24:41 PM Eastern Daylight Time, BMacKie1@compuserve.com writes: << Good for you, Nancy! 3. I agree that they are two separate Josephs but this Joseph to whom you refer is the son of William and Mary Watkins Younger. Halifax County deed Book 30:140 Jan 1822 Josephus of the 1st part, Huddleston of the 2nd part and parker Rice of the 3rd part. Joseph is indebted to Rice for $197. He sells the land to Huddleton and Huddleston is to pay Rice. Halifax County Deed Book 11 22 Jan 1818:625 Joseph was under the guardianship of Williamson Younger (former guarrdian Fieldong Bomar) 23 May 1821 Joseph to William bates; 116 acres on the south fork of Terrible creek adjoining Bibby Bomar, Joseph Fuqua and Joshua Coates 1822 Josephus from Stephen Huddleston 100 acres on waters of Buckskin Creek for $400 Halifax County Deed Book 32:227 15 Oct 1823\Deed of Trust Josephus to Elisha Barksdale and William Sydnor. All the land and Negroes he is entitled to from his grandfather, William Watkins but his mother Mary is to enjoy the benefits during her life. Witnesses: James McGraw, James Hankla, Thomas Younger and martha Younger. Ask yourself the question - why didn't the Joseph from the 1785 leave a paper trail? If he was 21 in 1785 he would have been eligible to witness the documents of others, serve on a jury, work on a road crew, buy or sell land. Why is there no evidence of him in Halifax County after 1785 and the list of 1790? That is a very meagre record for a man's life. NKYList@aol.com wrote: > Brownie, > > Absolutely!
