Linda, I believe that Martha is the same as Amanda M. from the 1880 census. In 1880, she was living with her brother, Azel. I actually have a question in my notes: Are Martha & Amanda the same? Just in case she's someone else. Amanda M. is the daughter of William Gray Sr & Mary Sharp(e). The age for Martha is right and the fact that she's born in NC. Can you take a look at her immediate neighbors? Maybe that will help.
I think you are right. The ages and places of birth are there and the fact that she was unmarried at age 51 in the 1880 census adds to the possibility. Azel and Margaret would have been dead and she lived alone. The names on either side of her appear to be Crowder. Azel's daughters married Roney, Brown, Marshall, Marlow, Davis and Cline, so they aren't around. Sometimes you wonder why someone of this age lives alone with such large families in the same area. ----- Original Message ----- From: <NKYList@aol.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 7:29 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Il census > Linda, > > I believe that Martha is the same as Amanda M. from the 1880 census.
