Attn: JYG I'm sorry it took me so long. I'm still stacks of paper behind- I think your documentation is quite complete that Mary Younger, Humphrey's sister married Henry Anderson by whom she had a daughter Elinor. Elinor married John Marsh and together they had Mary who married James Maxwell. I see no indication that these folks are connected to the Scottish church records. In fact I came away with a sense that they were English, rather than Scotch - not proven - just an indication from associates and property in England. Both Humphrey and Mary were born in the sixteenth century when records are sparse in America. I don't know if we can make any conclusions from the absence of records for them prior to the early records in the seventeenth century. It makes me wonder if they were born elsewhere and brought or came to America leaving relatives behind. We may not be able to find their ancestor in America. If I was looking, I would probably be looking in England - not Scotland (truly just a hunch) I came away from your documents with another question without an answer. Who were the John and James Younger who were next of kin to Mary Anderson? Brother's of Mary Anderson, like Humphrey or nephews, sons of Humphrey? It might be a good idea to get the real verbiage of her inventory and maybe even the estate settlement. Both might give us a hint. Sometimes the transcriptions leave out a single word that might be a clue.

I agree we can now seperate Mary and Humphrey from the Scots. I also had the feeling of English ancestry. > I came away from your documents with another question without an answer. > Who were the John and James Younger who were next of kin to Mary > Anderson? Brother's of Mary Anderson, like Humphrey or nephews, sons of > Humphrey? My guess as to the John and James Younger, were Humphrey's son, John being the father of Joshua. They would have been about 26 and 28 years old. Also named in her Will was Alexander Wilson, who was he? One thing about Wills.... Who signed them as witnesses? Were they anyone who happened to be around at the time, family, friends, etc.? I have never really discussed this matter with anyone. I have not removed the Logan from Joshua's name in my records, only making a mental note, as to remind me to find where that came from. I have Humphrey Youngers wife as mary Pell, as it appears in records. She was b abt 1684 Kent, Md, dau of William Pell, who d in Talbot, Md. His other dau Margaret Pell m1 William Uselton who d bef 1729 [Inventory: 22 May 1729; Filed: 4 Sep 1729. Executrix, wife Margaret.] Margaret m2 Mr. Childs. -20 Oct 1737, Gideon Pearce of Kent County, Gent., and his wife Anne, which said Gideon is son and devises of Col. William Pearce late of said county, dec'd, convey to Margaret Childs of Cecil County and after her death to her son William Uselton, Lot 134 of George Town. [Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore, Vol 4: The Uselton Family, pg 286.] There was a lot more on the Uselton family. The reason I mention it is because Margaret Uselton is named in regard to her sister Mary. -4 Apr 1732, Humphrey Younger of Kent County, and his wife Mary and Margaret Uselton, daughters of William Pell, of Talbot County, dec'd, convey to John Woodsll, son of Thomas Woodall, planter, 100 acres on Hambleton's Creek called "Hope." {Qalr Rta: 145} -Estate Appraised: 20 Oct 1748, Kent, Md, Usa. No creditors. John Brown (Quaker), administrator, filed inventory mentioning Richard Graham, Henry Trulock and Joseph Trulock, 6 May 1749. [Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore, Vol 4: The Uselton Family, pg 286.] So, I think this pretty much ties this family together as a group Sorry to repeat what I have already posted, but is hard to keep track. Here is what I have on Humphrey, showing he was in Md as early as 1722, when he was abt 45 years old: -1722, Kent, Md, Levy Books, Humphry Younger. [MD Early Census Index] -1723, Kent, Md, Usa; named in will of Dr. John March. -1728, Kent, Md, Usa; named in will of Mary Anderson, widow. [To brother Humphrey Younger, executor, residue of personality.] -Younger, Humphry, Sr.,Kent Co.,9th Mar., 1739; 9th June, 1740. To son John, "The Sole." At his death to pass to his son John and hrs. To son Humphrey, dwelling plantation. At his death to pass to his son Henry and hrs. To son James, land adjoining dwelling plantation. At his death to pass to his son James. To Sarah, wife of John, personalty. To son Thomas, ex., residue of personal estate. Test: Aaron Alford, Robert Stidman (Studman), John Depenny. 22. 206 -Probate: 9 Jun 1740, Kent, Md, Usa; Inventory: 18 Jul 1740, Kent, Md, Usa. [Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 8.] From this we also establish that Humphrey Younger was the brother of Mary Anderson; father of John Younger who had a wife Sarah, and son John; father of Humphrey, who has a son Henry; father of James, who has a son James; and father of Thomas, who was made executor.
