    3. I understand that Armistead, my gg grandfather, left Halifax, Virginia and some of the relatives went with him to Carroll County, TN. Some stayed in Carroll County and other's moved on to Independence County, now a part of Stone County, Ark in the early 1850's. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JYG" <jyg@kc.rr.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2001 7:53 PM Subject: [YOUNGER] Can anyone place these? > -1850 TN Carroll County, 8th Civil District (83-84) > 1099/1099 30 Oct > Wm H. 3. Hi,Bob, John Henry, Williamson, and William were already in TN when Armistead touched down there briefly (I didn't know he'd gone to TN at all; I thought he went to AR first) then went on to AR. Deeds point to this, as they were always appointing Armistead their attorney in VA. Wilson Cage or Fielding Cage took the boys to TN after Mary Bomar died. They were still babies. Williamson lived first in Gibson County before moving to Carroll. William moved later to AR (I think that's correct). John Henry went to MS and married Lucy Lanier. Williams talks in his diary about going to meet Armistead, but comes back and says Armistead didn't show up. Then later he says that Armistead didn't show up, because he wasn't able to cross the swamp. "July 13, 1860. The second day of this month, in the afternoon, I left home to go to Memphis to meet Brother Armistead. He failed to come. From what cause I cannot as yet tell. When I hear I will record it. Heard from Bro. Armistead. The cause of his not meeting me was he could not cross Cash swamp in Arkansas." Did you know that James left Armistead his carved watch? And then I think it was passed down to James Williamson. I think that watch is in Dallas in my cousin's safety deposit box. She's "keeping it in the family.." I'm trying to get her to put it in a museum in AR or Browning Museum in Carroll County. She's had a lot to deal with this past five months, so I'm not pushing the issue right now. I have copies of letters written from Armistead to James Williamson. Did I send you those? If I didn't, do you want them? I'll make copies and send them to you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Younger" <byounger@onemain.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2001 10:13 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Can anyone place these? > > I understand that Armistead, my gg grandfather, left Halifax, Virginia and > some of the relatives went with him to Carroll County, TN. 3. Yes, I would love a copy of the letters. Apparently your side of the family kept things. My father, never discussed Armistead nor his grandfather Robert Younger at all. Of course I only went to St. James with him for a day. Sad, when I think of it now. Have you ever been to the cemetary in St. James. Both Armistead's orginal tombstone and the new one his son Robert made for him are there. I believe I may even have an extra picture if you would like. On my next trip to St. James, I plan to visit the Methodist church there to see what records they my have. I agree with the watch. Mt. View, Ark, the county seat for St. James (Buckhorn) would be the best place in their museum. If not there then at the other point of origin, Halifax County. I believe I found Armistead in the 1840 census of Carroll County, listed as a wheelmaker like his brother William. However, looking in my file, I could not find the copies of the census. Guess, I'll just drive up to Carroll County and go through their records again. They have a good setup for geneology and last time I was there they were setting up an online system. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brownie MacKie" <BMacKie1@compuserve.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 7:45 AM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Can anyone place these? > Hi,Bob, > > John Henry, Williamson, and William were already in TN when Armistead > touched down there briefly (I didn't know he'd gone to TN at all; I thought > he went to AR first) then went on to AR. 3. Williamson was a tailor, as was James Williamson, his son and my g grandfather. I think you and I can get into some real depth here with Armistead and Williamson. What a treat! 3. I think Armistead was in Carroll County until after '43. I would love to have a picture of Armistead's tombstone. I haven't one of Williamson's, but I have one of Lousia's. They were buried in two different cemeteries. I'll try to send you a lot of pictures, etc. of family members as soon as I can. These people have become so real to me....they were flesh and blood just like you and me at one time. My mouse on my computer is acting up, so I'm a bit restricted. I'll try to write more in the morning.
