    3. I have noticed that people are very often protective of what they believe to be true and that's good except I have learned through experience that you never know when that one piece of documentation comes along that changes all of your perceptions. For example, look what just happend on our very own list. It was a common perception that Nehemiah Younger was the son of Lewis Younger of Anne Arundel County MD. That assumption was drawn from the fact that they were the only two Youngers in that county and one was older than the other. Along comes a piece of documentation which demonstrated that Lewis was not the father of Nehemiah and that Humphrey Younger, Jr. was. If we wanted to be closed minded we could say, "Oh, that piece of evidence doesn't mean that, etc, etc, etc." Change has to be the watchword of researchers - open to change. Very early in my own personal research I misread a middle initial on a Victorian census record and merrily went my way following that man. One day, I got a telephone call from a very nice man telling me he thought I had made a mistake. He was right. I felt like I had been adopted! We became the best of friends and collaborated in our research until he died. I still hear from his wife and daughter so, sometimes, these can be good experiences and all for the best. My mantra is, "Show me the documentation." When I have seen it, I can accept it and change.
