May I be so rude as to repeat that Joshua, by his own admission states he was born, not in Maryland, but in Virginia in his pension application. He enlisted in Virginia, served in the Virginia Continental Line and received a Land Grant from the state of Virginia. What documentation do you have that he was born in Maryland? I am not intractable on this point. If you have documentation of his Maryland birth, I will apologize and change all my records. Until then, for my money, he is a Virginian. Secondly, no one, to date, has found a source document giving any name - given or surname - for his first wife. The only documentation available is not a source document but a letter written by her great grandson one hundred years after her death by Cole Younger who was writing to the Governor of Missouri in an attempt to obtain a parden. I believe he had an ulterior motive for gilding the lily. Until these two issues are settled, there can be no third and fourth generation. My mantra: Documentation!
