    3. This is from Bob Ferguson's website. Seems like the Ferguson's didn't marry into the Youngers until 1830 later than 1700's. Unless their was an earlier marriage I don't know about. 3. My Thomas Pittman,Sr. born 1723 King George County, Va married Mary Farguson, m. 1748, the daughter of Joshua Farguson(Ferguson). Now one of Bob Ferguson's descendants was a Ferguson(same county) who married a Younger.I was trying to figure out how his Fergusons related to mine. But he said he was related a couple of different ways on several different Ferguson lines. And I never quite figured that out. But I know they were related someway. And down the line my g grandfather Joseph Chester Pittman married Emma Younger, daughter of Willis Younger of Madisonville, KY. Also we have plenty of Garnetts and a Griffin in our line(the Younger line, not Pittman). And Judy Hostettler has a Cofer in her line. So I can't say exactly which John Younger that is but I would say he's from the Joshua line. -----Original Message----- >From: Leni Lopez <lenitajo@yahoo.com> >Sent: Nov 22, 2008 8:03 PM >To: Younger-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [YOUNGER] John Farguson Will RE:Grandson John Younger > >Hi, >           I am trying to look in my files right now.But I do not see any Farguson's yet.I am digging  away in my piles right now...lol.  Do any of you know about John Farguson & John Younger ? >                                                                                     Thanks,Leni >  >                > > > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to YOUNGER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

    3. Leni, try FERGUSON instead of Farguson. I have a john Ferguson d abt 1786 in Bedofrd cty VA married to a Mary Gill. He was the son of Moses Ferguson and had a son named John. Moses was married to Sophia Phelps. Sophia was a descendant of a John Phelps and Susannah Younger. Susannah was the daughter of a John Younger and Ann Moss. This is not my line and the info was gained 10 or 15 years ago. I have dates and places but no idea how accurate any of it is. The township cast 103 votes, of which George Shannon received 96; James H. Birch, 3; John Bull, 3; George F. Strother, 1. The election resulted in the choice of John Bull, of Howard county, who only served one term. Wm. H. Strother was an old pioneer who had been with Lewis and Clark, in 1804, and badly wounded in an encounter with the Indians; Mr. Shannon was a prominent citizen, and, it would seem, Greene county's favorite. The judges of election for Campbell township in August, 1833, were Joseph Rountree, Alex. Younger, and D. B. Miller; clerks, Thos. F. Wright and J. M. Rountree. This area of the family farm was set aside as a cemetery in 1854 for the burial of the Youngers' son George Worthington Younger (b. 1820). Maintained originally as a family burial ground, it was later made available for use by local residents. About 1860 adjacent property, now known as Woodward Cemetery, was first used for the burial of slaves. Additions to the cemetery have been made through land purchases and through donations from the J. S. Callicutt family and Younger family descendants. The community burial ground now covers about ten acres and contains over 1600 graves. Those buried here include many pioneer settlers and early leaders of the Purdon area. Still in use, the Younger Cemetery has served area residents since before the Civil War. Today it is the site of an annual memorial service and homecoming held each May. !DEATH:Tombstone in Younger Cemetery !SOURCES: Family Bible owned by Mrs. Arthur Keeling, Dallas, TX Records of Maury County, TN, Greene County MO, Navarro County TX Tombstones at Younger Cemetery between Purdon and Dawson, Navarro County TX

    3. Ann Hunt is going to Salt Lake City to do research shortly. She is copied on this message. Does anyone have any idea what she could do to further our hunt for the parents of Marcus Younger? I have not done Essex County research. King and Queen is burned. How about other counties she could research for early Younger records that have not been researched? My green book that I bought of compiled info from the Younger family assn. is not handy and I can't find it right now. Can someone look in there and see what was previously researched? I'm hopeful that after the Va archives get the county chancery suits online there will be something there to help us, but that won't be in SLC. If there is something that can be researched, this is our opportunity. Suggestions very welcome! Bobbi

Bobbi _____ From: rod younger [mailto:rodyounger@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, October 20, 2008 4:49 AM To: Roberta J. Estes Subject: Re: Younger Family Hi Roberta, Many thanks for getting back to me. I have very good information on the descendants of Charles Younger (brother of Thomas who supposedly went to Jamaica via Wilmington, ex Glasgow) - he had at least 3 children with a free mulatto woman called Hannah Luney (father may have been Norwegian) and his son Charles 2 went to Spain (Cadiz) in 1814 and basically the Younger's stayed in Spain although Charles 2 had an illegitimate son in 1823/4 in London (Charles 3) but whom he took back to Spain before marrying a Spanish lady. Charles 1 was Clerk to the Vestry in Hanover parish of Jamaica as well as Capitan in Jamaican militia - it looks like he (and possibly his brothers) were involved in a firm called Leigh & Younger. He married a Mary James Tenison in 1802 but died in 1804 in Lucea - age unknown but assumed to be in his 50/60s. His wive lived (in Jamaica) until 1836 and at one stage had up to 22 slaves. My line of descendents is from this Charles 1 - my grandmother was Elena Younger and she married Manuel Manso de Zuniga. My father went to live in the UK in the 1950s and dropped the Manso de Zuniga. When he retired back in Spain and adopted Manso de Zuniga Younger again - unfortunately he died a couple of weeks ago. So in essence my real surname is Manso de Zuniga - the Younger comes from my grandmother (so I am not sure if microchondtrial DNA tracing would work for me). BTW, the link to www.familtytreedna.com <http://www.familtytreedna.com/> just takes me to a portal page with details of various web sites dealing with DNA and genealogy. However, there are a number of Younger's in UK and Spain to whom we are related (via brothers/sisters of my great grandfather and my grand mother etc.) and with whom we are in touch and in fact we have Younger family reunions every two years. My real interest is in finding out where Charles 1 and his brothers Thomas and William came from and so I was wondering if there are any records/information on him (or Thomas or William) from Wilmington - would be great to know for example who their father and mother were, why they went to Jamaica and if they had any children/relatives in NC. In any event, what was going on in NC in the mid 1700's to attract these settlers - was it cotton or tabaco farming? Kind regards, Rod 2008/10/20 Roberta J. Estes <restes@comcast.net> Hi Rod, I'm not familiar with your line at all, but I'd surely be interested to see of your DNA matches that of any of our participants. It would make the research easier knowing if we are shooting for the same family, or if we aren't. Have you considered this avenue. You are fortunately that you can personally participate because you have the Younger surname. I'm attaching a paper about how this works. Brownie and I have the Younger project at www.familtytreedna.com and you can get the project discount if you join through the project. I am researching my own roots and have got as far as tracing a Thomas Younger who went from Glasgow to Wilmington but who died in Lucea, Jamaica in 1795. I believe he had two brothers, William and Charles, both of whom also ended up in Lucea, Jamaica but I don´t know whether they also came via Wilmington or straight from Glasgow. My line of the family is via Charles but I am keen to find out more about where the brothers originally came from and if they have any descendents in Wilmington (or anywhere in the USA). Any information you may have in this regard would be much apprecaited. FYI, aside from Jamaican registry records, my sources for the information I have include; The Gentleman's Magazine which extracted some years ago Jamaican references, that had been extracted concerning North American references of Marriages and Deaths that the compiler - again David Dobson - had found in them. His volume was titled American Vital Records from the Gentleman's Magazine 1731-1868. It had recorded "Younger, Thomas, ex. Glasgow, Wilmington N.C. [North Carolina] d. Lucea, Ja. 1795 (Vol.65, p.794). This entry matches one in the Jamaican registries of Thomas Younger "brother of Charles, merchant Lucea" who was buried 23 June 1795: and a series of books titled Directory of Scottish Settlers in North America 1625 - 1825 by David Dobson. North America includes the Caribbean. Vol. 3 which has the following: "Younger, William, Millwright. Died in Lucea, Jamaica on 11 August 1789 (source given as Scots Magazine 51.570). This William is highly likely to be a brother of Charles 1 and Thomas Younger (who were brothers) Thank you for your attention and I look forward to hearing if you can shed any further light on the Younger brothers. Kind regards, Rod Younger
