    3. I have eight Thomas Youngers -- these below and a whole bunch more born after 1790. Most, if not all the dates are estimates, most of the information came from the FOTY book or from this List. 1. Alexander and Rebecca Mills had a Thomas who had two unknown wives and about 15 children. 2. One of the children from the first unknown wife was named Thomas born ca 1734. 3. Humphrey and Mary Pell of MD had a Thomas born ca 1712 4. John and Sarah Kennard had a Thomas born ca. 1753 5. James and Anna Nash had a Thomas born March 10, 1761 NC married Mary Nall 6. William and Mary Watkins had a Thomas born ca 1784 married Sarah Brown 7. Unknown parents had a Thomas born ca. 1790 married Martha Crowder 8. Thomas and Mary Nall had a Thomas born bet. 1790-1791 NC married Ellen London. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roberta J. My thinking is that somebody needs to camp in Halifax/Essex or at the VA archives for as long as it takes to dig up information. I did some work years ago at the University of VA archives at the UV library. A record found there indicated Thomas married "Mary North"....not Northern....in Essex/ Old Rappahanock. There was a family of Norths who have a history there. I have never known where the "Northern" came from. I have also speculated that there were two Thomases. The Norths from 1692-1726: Abraham m. Sarah Rouzie (Alexander was indentured by Edward Rowzee) 1692; Mary North, widow of William North, married John Mills. Jr. 1706. There are two more in the marriage index of Old Rappahanockm but they're insignificant. Did not Mary Nall marry James Younger? 3. Larry One thing you can do is take Mary "Polly" Nall out of the mix. She wasn't born until 1768 and was married to an entirely different Thomas Younger. The Thomas you are referencing seemed to have at least two unknown wives. Possibly Sarah Ferguson and possibly Mary Northern. As far as I know, none have been proven as yet. If we could only find a marriage record, it would greatly help. I'd love to see the mess cleared up and wish I had some concrete proof to offer, one way or the other. One of our big problems is that there are so many Thomas Younger's. 3. For purposes of the database, I'm willing to deal with an acceptable level of uncertainty. I'd love to have the "Alexander > Thomas > William" versus "Alexander > Thomas > Thomas > William" issue fully squared away (it's the genealogy question that truly haunts me), but unless we can find a way to un-burn a courthouse or two that isn't likely to happen. Someday, I hope to write out a good argument - but it hasn't happened yet. My chief concern is cleaning out what shouldn't be there: things like a marriage "Mary Nall" and dying in Essex. - Stephen On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:18 PM, <Mbmackie1231@aol.com> wrote: > > In a message dated 12/16/2008 2:12:28 P.M. 3. All - I'm trying to sort out a pretty nasty mess in some files for Thomas Younger (son of Alexander and/or father of William) of Essex/Halifax. We've gone around on this once or twice, so I'm going to try and phrase this correctly. What do we KNOW about Thomas? The stuff that can be reasonably proved (there's alway a little bit of "educated guesswork" involved). Here's some of the clutter that's been created in this file (much of which I KNOW is incorrect): Birth Date: 1700, abt 1700, abt 1706, 1710 Birth Place: Halifax, Virginia; Essex, Virginia Marriage Date: 1725, 1730, 1735, 1745, 1750 Spouses: Mary Northern, Mary (Polly) Nall, Sara/Sarah Ferguson Death Date: aft 11 Aug 1725, frm 1753-1792, 1759, 11 Aug 1791, 24 Oct 1791 Death Place: Halifax, Virginia; Essex, Virginia In the interest of full disclosure, I'll tell you that I'm trying to clean up the records in the newFamilySearch interface that the LDS church is working on. If that means you don't want to help me, I'm used to that - but please understand that I'm trying to clean up this mess, complaining about it hasn't made it any better yet for anybody, and now I have an opportunity to really clarify things for the next generation of researchers to look at this database. If you are willing to help, I truly appreciate it. - Stephen

    3. Hi,                 I am going back to look at the things I found last night. The Sarah Farguson (Ferguson ) who Married ---------- Younger ? was born abt. 1741. She married 2nd a Mr. Griffing according to the web page that had all this info. But last night I also found another site that led me to believe her missing -------------Younger, was the son of Alexander.. ? So it could well be his son John. I will have to find it again.   The 1st site I found is HUGE.The one with all the Deeds mentioned etc.But their Index does not have Younger listed (just 2 ). I found the deeds mentioned, just by clicking on random  people etc in the data base. It would be worth it if we all took a look to see what else we find. There were a few Newbill names mentioned and I think I remember some Cheeks as well. This person has really done a lot of work. Tons of early Virgina records are listed who knows what we might find.As they all seemed to  marry into their neighbours famlies etc.   I think this would be a fun project today ,if anyone is game.... Here is the addy  http://homepage.mac.com/thomas_moore/genealogy/ps05/ps05_203.html just go from page to page and CLICK away !   Sarah Griffing was mentioned in the 22 April 1769 will of her father John Farguson. She was to receive a feather bed and furniture. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 82-83.]                                                                    Leni
