    1. [YOUNGER] Military records of Joshua Younger

    3. Not any particular order- The Nelson County Pioneer, Bardstown, KY, Vol. 2, #2:38 15 Aug. 1788 Joshua Younger, 34 yrs., certified to 6 pounds yearly for disability resulting from injury in the service of the U.S. by Beverly Randolph, Lt. Gov. of VA >From Copy of Bounty Land Warrant 39222-160-55 on Joshua Younger National Archives Copy "A copy of my discharge: The bearer hereof Joshua Younger was a private in the 12th VA Regiment of the Continental Establishment until he received a wound which rendered him unfit for further service when he was regularly discharged by me, a Colonel of the sd Regiment after which he was placed on the List of Pensioners. I further testify that he was esteemed a good soldier while in the service and that he has from every information which that I have been able to obtain maintained the character of a respectable citizen. Given under my hand at Richmond this 30th day of Jan 1807. Nicholas County, State of Kentucky 22 Jun 1818 This day Joshua Younger appeared before me, John Trimble, one of the Circuit Judges in and for the state of Kentucky and made oath that in Jan 1777 he enlisted as a private soldier for and during the war in the 12th VA Regt.... and served until May, 1779 at which time he was discharged...served in Capt. Vance's Company...appears to have enlisted on 18 Jan 1777, During the war. Born, in the State of Virginia. Declaration Mar 1829 At a Circuit Court holden for the County of Nicholas at the Courthouse in the town of Carlisle on 31 March 1829. Joshua Younger produced his original claim and schedule for the purpose of obtaining a pension under the laws of Congress to wit," Original claim -Declaration in order to be placed on the pension list under the act of 18 March 1818 County of Nicholas and Sate of kentucky. On 31 March 1829 personally appeared in open court (being a court of record for the 2nd judicial District in the County, held in the town of Carlisle) Joshua Younger resident of sd county, aged 74 yrs., who first was duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the acts of Congress 18 march 1818 and the 1st of May 1820. That Joshua Younger enlisted during the war in January 1777, in the State of Virginia in the company commanded by Capt. William Vaugh (Vance), in the Regiment commanded by Col. James Woods in the line of the State of Virginia on the Continental Establishment and continued to serve in the sd Corps until sometime in May 1779, when he was discharged in consequence of receiving a wound in the town of Winchester (his pay records say Jersey at Short Hills) of the State of Virginia. That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to pension except the present, that his name is not on the pension rolls of any state except the one transmitted, which is in your files. And the following are the reasons for not making an earlier application for a pension. My first declaration was prepared by Gen. Andrew S. Hughes, attorney at law; when they were returned to me he handed them to me and told me that my claim was not allowed and I being old and ignorant never made further application until now. My occupation is that of farmer, but am unable to follow it. My wife was 62 yrs old last Dec. I have one son and his wife living with me; his name is Garrett, aged 22; his wife 20. Neither myself not my wife have been able to support ourselves by labor for many years past, and I am much indebted for necessities to support on. And what little property I have will be sacrificed to pay my debts, and will not pay half of it. My property consists of one mare (23 yrs old) $5.00, nine head of cattle $35, one plow, 2 pair of geese, ax $950, three bedsteads and bedding $36, household and kitchen furniture $20.00, eleven head of sheep $5.50, twelve goats, one sow $8.00. Total amount $119.00. Paraphrasing the next paragraph - legalese for "he has not disposed of any property in order to obtain the pension". The court found his testimony to be true and affixed their opinion to his application. Pension Transfer from Nicholas County to Lawrence County, Indiana 20 Apr 1833 Joshua Younger, age 79 on March 4 1833 (b 1754) One son Garrett, age 22 and his wife 20, to live with children of whom there are four in Lawrence County and one in adjoining Orange County. The Pension Roll of 1835 Vol. III, The Southern States:291 Name: Joshua Younger, 79 Allowance $96.00; Received $302.70 Service: Virginia Line Placed on Roll: 21 Jan 1830 His wife Catherine Younger applied for his pension 15 Aug. 1843 containing several pages. The most important items genealogically are her age, name, date and place of her marriage to him and his death date. Catherine Yoter m 15 Sep 1787 in Hampshire County, VA ( now W VA). His death date was 2Aug. 1833. I'd send more but I am drowning in a sea of papers and I never seem to catch up.

    3. There is a Rev. Robert Hobson Younger, son of John Marcus Younger and Mary Carter. "Rev. Robert was a native of Pittsylvania. The head of the famly was Marcus Younger, of the Peninsula County, and a soldier of the Rev. " (from "Youngers of VA") By the way, I remember my grandfather, Williamson Henry Younger, telling me that we descended from a long line of Methodists clear back to the circuit riders. The above Rev. Robert H. Younger was a Methodist minister. Brownie

    3. >From "Youngers of Virginia" by Mattie Ellen Trube. "....in 1706 Joseph Younger was very active as a merchant mariner between Whitehaven, England and Essex County, VA. He is recorded as having an order for chariot for a horse for Wm. Fauntleroy of Rappahannock Co. in 1741. That merchant company was continued until 1774 by John Younger of Caroline County, who had connections in many towns along the Rappahannock. Alexander Younger mentioned a brother in Scotland, and there was a William Younger who drowned enroute to America in 1679." More later to come.....oh, where is Paul Harvey?

    3. My earliest record in America is Elizabeth Younger who was transported from England in 1668 (Maryland Archives, Liber 11, Folio 344) If Dr. Barber married this Elizabeth it was a good trick because he died in 1665. 1. [YOUNGER] Thomas Younger, a creditor
    2. I found this at ancestry.com. Was actually looking for Harrison Younger, and the search included this. Thought someone might like to see it. Virginia, Prominent Families, Vol. 1-4 Volume II Chapter XV The Harrison Family. It is noteworthy that there was a Benjamin among the brothers of John Harrison of St. Michael's, Wood Street, London, who, by his will dated February 19, 1638, devised lands "lately given unto me and my heirs by my grandmother situate in Lance, in the parish of Coppeford in Co. Essex," to his brother Francis and his heirs, and, in default of issue, to his said brother Benjamin, in fee. This Benjamin lived at Oldham and Ipswich, Suffolk, and had a son of the same name, mentioned in the will of Judith Harrison in 1638, and of Robert Harrison in 1641, but I do not suppose the son old enough to have been Clerk of the Virginia Council, about 1630, and perhaps both Benjamins are accounted for in the grant of letters of administration on the estate of persons of the name, one of Ipswich, on October 18, 1665, to his relict Susan, and the other "lately in parts beyond the seas, bachelor," on September 26, 1682, to Thomas Younger, a creditor. The only Benjamin mentioned in the Harrison wills of Essex was the son of George, by his wife Emma, Emma having died in, or before 1616, as she was then spoken of as deceased by her mother Susan, who had also married a Harrison. This Benjamin survived the emigrant four years, being appointed in 1653 supervisor of the will of a brother, George, and may have been the Benjamin Harrison of St. Sepulchre's, London, on whose estate letters of administration were granted on April 29, 1663, to his relict Elizabeth.

    3. I forgot to add- Littleton Purcell's father, Coleman Purcell was a full brother to Henry Washington, father of the gang; uncle to Cole, and half brother to all of the children by Charles of his significant other, Permelia Wilson (includes Charles Franklin, Bruce et al) The relationships were right, the name was wrong. Thomas Coleman was Cole's full name You asked where you could find Coleman Purcell's name written, I would suggest the will of Charles. I have all of Joshua's military records - some in the original and I have yet to see the name Elizabeth or Lee..He was placed on an invalid list and the gorey details of his injury were given in living color - and yet they kept him on awhile as a waggoner. They are, however, voluminous. Too much for my tired eyes tonight. Even a little bit. And to all- a good night- Wilma C. Hillman wrote: > 1. If Sally Ann had no heirs all was to revert to brothers William, Armistead, Williamson I have no death date for Sarah Terry Younger Wilma C.
