Lillamae and Grady Ellis were my parents, Wilma. Here's a brief: I don't have time to send the whole thing. 1. James D. Barry/Julianna Coombe: DC (circa 1790's...1850's) 2. Griffith Coombe Barry/Mary Wingfield Claybrook; daughter of William Peyton Doswell Claybrook and Narcissa D. Nance 3. Lilly Barry/Edward McGary McKisick (Bosque County and McLennan County, TX. 4. Stella Brown McKisick (named for her music teacher)/Williamson Henry Younger, son of James Williamson Younger. 5. Lillamae Younger/Grady Ellis 6. Me; Brownie Ellis MacKie m. (1) Morris High ch: Craig, 1961; Jeana Marie, 1961; Eric Morris, 1967; Ross Grady, 1969. (2) James D. MacKie, no issue. Some of my McKisick cousins also married Barrys. But they were not marrying cousins. I'll get that info to you later. The most prominent Barry in Tx was James Buckner Barry, a famous indian fighter and Tx Ranger, but as far as I can research, we were not related, although my gg grandfather did a little indian fighting with James B. I have never met Walela Snowbird...she is a second cousin, I believe. I also have Uncle Ray Younger's notes, and he states very clearly that they saw Cole Younger briefly after one of Cole's lectures, compared family, and Cole joked that they might be "fifth cousins" or so....in other words a relationship was doubtful. Of course, none of them researched the probability. I also have Geneva Younger's research and a letter in which she states that our branch probably came from England and that Wilma Hillman confirmed this for her. Geneva and her daughter spent many years researching this Younger branch. Geneva is the daughter-in-law of Ernest Younger, son of James Williamson Younger. Geneva's research is on FamilySearch for all to see. I stated this privately to Linda, but I'll state it again publicly....I set out to prove that we WERE RELATED to the Younger brothers and found that we were NOT. It certainly is not a matter of wanting to be or not to be related to a gang of bank robbers and thieves. We can chose our friends but not our relatives. Have a good day!

In the last digest I received, I noticed there were references to what must be two different Younger spouses by the name of "Anna Nash". Do we know if they were related? And - please forgive me, I'm new here - Who was "Tomahawk" Thomas? Whether he's in my line or not, I'm very interested in finding out how he got that nickname. This is what I have and have not traced this much: Milton T. Younger b 15 May 1802 Garrard, Ky; d 1852 Liberty, Clay, Mo (near where I now live) m abt 1824 Mo, Sarah Mildred "Millie" Taylor b 22 Sep 1802; children: 1. Katharine (Taylor?) (your line) 2. Charles (there has been quite a bit done on his family) he has a son Coleman Washington b 1848 who could be the "uncle Wash" 3. Rebecca b 1 Dec 1828 Mo; d Dec 1912. (untraced) Charles Lee Younger, had by his slave, Fanny: Washington, another candidate, who was b sometime bef 1852 Mo. I do not have Milton Younger's death date and location or when and who he married. I do not know what his middle initial "T" stands for. I have seen his mother's name as Nancy Toney and Toomey, also, but do not know which is correct. Katharine Younger is spelled with a "C" in Charles Younger's will. But I have a copy of a letter she wrote to her children in 1883 in which she signs her name "Katharine S. Wallace." Her tombstone at Blue Flat Cemetery in Texas has "K. S. Wallace." I assumed her middle name was Sarah because she is listed as "Sarah" in the 1870 Denton Co., TX federal census. I probably shouldn't have made that assumption. Will double check to see what other proof I may have. In her letter of 1883, she talks about "your Uncle Wash." Who are the best candidates for this Uncle Wash? So many questions, so few answers. Hello Gaye- Perhaps you can help me with something. I have Nancy's last name as Toomey, her father being Elexander Toomey (as it was spelled in "whatever" source I had had but is lost). I am faithfully trying to backtrack, but this is hard to do. I also have Milton's middle name as Toomey. I am trying to find his burial place and go to the grave to see if his full name is on his tombstone. Do you know where he is burried? I live in the area and can take some digital photos if you want them. Next: I have Catharine with a middle name Taylor, after her mother's maiden name. Can you comment here? Do you know where Catharine's mother (Sarah Mildred "Millie" Taylor) died and is she burried with Milton? Thanks! Have been enjoying all the back and forth on this list. Decided to state my relationship to Youngers. I am descended through Katharine Sarah Younger, daughter of Milton T. Younger, son of Charles Younger and first wife Nancy Toney. Katharine Sarah Younger, b 1 Dec 1825, MO, married Robert Milton Wallace on 24 Oct 1843 in MO. They had 9 children, including my gggrandmother, Hannah Arent Wallace b 26 Jan 1850. Hannah married Amos Barton Cheatham on 19 Aug 1870 in Denton Co., TX. Hannah & Amos had 10 children, including my g-grandfather, Silas Terry Cheatham. Are there any more of Milton Younger's descendants out there? Katharine Sarah Younger Wallace died 22 Dec 1891 in Gordon, Palo Pinto County, Texas. Gaye Lynn Stanga gstanga@telocity.com
I find this interesting as this is how I perceive the relationship of the VA Youngers to the Younger "Gang".....actually, this is what my grandpa told me how it was, but alas....Brownie doesn't want to hear that, she doesn't want to be related to the outlaws, she's told me so, she makes no bones about it, Brownie and I are cousins, but we don't see eye to eye on this..........my grandpa, Robert Ray, wrote everything down and I have his notes where he and his father, James Williamson, spent an afternoon with Cole in Clifton, TX and of course, the subject of genealogy came up.....apparently names were compared and Cole said that they were related......my grandpa and my dad do believe that, so do I Walela ----- Original Message ----- From: "JYG" <jyg@kc.rr.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: July 30, 2001 2:54 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Addressed to Linda S. > To the list: > > This will NOT happen again, but seems Brownie is not going to leave ma alone > no matter where I go, sop lets get this over with.... please accept my > apologies... > > Brownie: > > You already know we disagree on this subject and I am not getting into a > heated debate about it. Welcome to the list Gaye -- do you have Milton T.'s death date and location and when and who he married. I had Katharine Sarah spelled with a C - Catherine -- will change to K if you say so since this is your line. I have some correspondence from Dreat Younger, now deceased, and thought I'd share some of it. This is a copy of a letter from Jay P. Younger, deceased, to Dreat, written July 7, 1991 "I have sent in forms to the National Archives to have a search made of Thomas Younger as a Revolutionary veteran. The records of the Archives of Maryland, Vol. 18, Pg 59 states a Thomas Younger enrolled by Captain Paca in the army of the revolution in Harford Co. MD on July 24, 1776. I feel certain that this Thomas was the son of John and Sarah (Kennard) Younger of Kent Co. MD. If his military records are found I will have another search made to see if he was given a land grant in North Carolina or Tennessee. If I find his location there we may be able to establish that he had a son named Thomas born in 1790 or 1791. If this can be proved we will have our line to Cole Younger. Cole's great-grandfather Joshua and our GR-Gr-Gr-grandfather Thomas were brothers. This brother Thomas was the father of our Tomahawk Thomas, and he the father of our Alexander." I have always tried to find my connection to the Younger Brothers also. My family tradition was they were "cousins of some sort to a 2nd or 3rd grandfather". I once asked Dreat how he knew our line was related to the Boys. He said "it was just something that he always knew -- didn't doubt it for a minute" but he couldn't offer any concrete proof. Just "I know it because I know it" - it had been passed down through his parents and grandparents that they were kin. I don't know if Jay ever got the papers he wanted, or if he found the proof he was looking for. He had all his research in his computer and it went to a nephew. Wilma
