And what do you have on your marriage index for Phillip? And what do you know about John Marcus and I guess the F could be for Franklin. That's a pretty common name in the Younger lines. ----- Original Message ----- From: Brownie MacKie <BMacKie1@compuserve.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 8:52 AM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Robert Younger, son of John and Lucy Hart > I was wondering who the Phillip A. Linda, Where do you get Joseph as the son of James & Anna Nash Younger? That's a new one on me!!! He's probably the son of Thomas Younger and James is his uncle, but even that can't be proven. Willie and I, along with a few others, have certainly built a mound of circumstantial evidence though. If you have documentation of Joseph as James' son, please share. Thanks, Nancy
Donna, are you referring to FOTY? If so, the answer is yes. P.S. to everybody -- we need to remember to change subject lines when changing subjects! ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dgreennash@aol.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 6:36 AM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Joshua (Logan) Younger > To join, do I send the fee to the address you listed? > Donna Green Nash > > > ==== YOUNGER Mailing List ==== > Younger Mailing List, Please feel welcome here. Nancy's parents were married Feb. 6,1790. If Nancy were the first born then maybe she did marry william in 1809. My data base does not give Nancy's birth but does show her brother , William Gray Younger, being born in 1797. ----- Original Message ----- From: <NKYList@aol.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 5:58 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Re:1850 census > I need a lookup! I don't think you have to defend the tool you use for your records. Each companies software has its pro and con's. FTM has tried to make money off us at very high prices. It's interesting, I have never bought any of the material from FTM or any other software company. I enjoy going to the different places and doing the reseach on the spot. Running into the Armistead book in the Stone County Arkansas library was like striking a gold mine. They made the book the old fashion way, with family group sheets of paper, and lots of help, many of whom were not related to the Younger's. They made the book cause they got so many questions from people all over the country, looking for a link to the Younger Brothers. I was fortunate to get them to publish a second edition in 1996. The other source who helped me a lot was you Wilma. You have done a great deal of research. I to am trying to put together a book for the family and a movie. I use the latest family tree maker software as my tool, I guess cause it was the first one which would work on a MAC. I have motion pictures that go back to 1944 had them all put on video tape, cost about $2,000 but at least they will keep for another hundred years or so that way. Any way, my point is that its people like all of you and your research where we advance the most. You don't have to and I don't recommend any of the commercial programs. My file now has 2300 names and still growing. Library's around the country are all setting up geneology center's. Try asking or visiting the library in different city's and see what you get. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilma Norton" <wilma@softcom.net> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 5:25 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] re: various programs > I don't know why I'm defending FTM -- I don't have a monetary interest!!! > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <NKYList@aol.com> > To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 3:17 PM > Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] re: various programs > > > > Just to join in, haha.... I think Armistead was in Carroll County until after '43. I would love to have a picture of Armistead's tombstone. I haven't one of Williamson's, but I have one of Lousia's. They were buried in two different cemeteries. I'll try to send you a lot of pictures, etc. of family members as soon as I can. These people have become so real to me....they were flesh and blood just like you and me at one time. My mouse on my computer is acting up, so I'm a bit restricted. I'll try to write more in the morning. Williamson was a tailor, as was James Williamson, his son and my g grandfather. I think you and I can get into some real depth here with Armistead and Williamson. What a treat! Yes, I would love a copy of the letters. Apparently your side of the family kept things. My father, never discussed Armistead nor his grandfather Robert Younger at all. Of course I only went to St. James with him for a day. Sad, when I think of it now. Have you ever been to the cemetary in St. James. Both Armistead's orginal tombstone and the new one his son Robert made for him are there. I believe I may even have an extra picture if you would like. On my next trip to St. James, I plan to visit the Methodist church there to see what records they my have. I agree with the watch. Mt. View, Ark, the county seat for St. James (Buckhorn) would be the best place in their museum. If not there then at the other point of origin, Halifax County. I believe I found Armistead in the 1840 census of Carroll County, listed as a wheelmaker like his brother William. However, looking in my file, I could not find the copies of the census. Guess, I'll just drive up to Carroll County and go through their records again. They have a good setup for geneology and last time I was there they were setting up an online system. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brownie MacKie" <BMacKie1@compuserve.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 7:45 AM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Can anyone place these? > Hi,Bob, > > John Henry, Williamson, and William were already in TN when Armistead > touched down there briefly (I didn't know he'd gone to TN at all; I thought > he went to AR first) then went on to AR. I picked up a little extra info on this family from the Pedigree Resource File from LDS; Descendants of Joel Younger Generation No. 1 1. Joel1 Younger (JohnA, MarcusB, YoungerC) was born June 16, 1794 in Halifax County, Virginia (Source: (1) FOTY Research by Margarette B. Hutchins, compiled by Wilma Hillman June 2000., (2) 1850 Northern Dist. Halifax Co. VA, Joel Younger, 56, fmr $5000. VA., (3) 1860 Scottsburg Twp. Halifax Co. VA, Joel Younger, 66 farmer..), and died June 22, 1877 in Halifax County, Virginia (Source: FOTY Research by Margarette B. Hutchins, compiled by Wilma Hillman June 2000.). He married (1) Lucy A. Caine January 27, 1818 in Halifax County, Virginia (Source: FOTY Research by Margarette B. Hutchins, compiled by Wilma Hillman June 2000.), daughter of Howard Caine and Elizabeth Moorefield. She was born Abt. 1795, and died March 14, 1821 in Halifax County, Virginia (Source: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Family Group Record on Pedigree Resource File, "CD-ROM."). I give $300 and bed and furniture to each of them, that is: Nathan B. Younger, Joseph G. Younger, Mildred C. Younger, and Thomas L. Younger, etc. also notes that Vincent B. Younger is dec'd. and names one granddaughter, Mary Ellen Younger. Joel is in the 1860 Scottsburg Twp. Halifax Co. VA census with a female, F_ntet Younger, age 58, keeping house - I do not know if this is a second wife, or if the census was so hard to read that this was a "best guess". Notes for Lucy A. Caine: Parentage established by the fact that the 1782 and 1785 census lists Howard Caine as head of a family of three while souls as the only Caine in Halifax Co. He is a bondsman in the marriage of Lucy and Joel. (srs: Family Group Record on Pedigree Resource File). Thankyou Wilma. I am a member of FOTJF and they have a museum where you can get books and such. Does FOTY have, or plan to have anything like this in Lees Summit? I had heard that something had been planned but that was a while back now. -Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilma Norton" <wilma@softcom.net> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 7:07 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Joshua (Logan) Younger > Order it from The Friends of the Youngers, c/o Evelyn Akers/FOTY, 4729 > Woodward, Overland Park, KS 66203-1351. I wonder why THAT was posted in the Biblical Recorder of the Baptist Church in North Carolina???? That's interesting. It never occurred to me to even look at that! In a message dated 8/6/01 7:44:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time, jyg@kc.rr.com writes: << > Younger, James. Died at St. Paul, Minn. 22 Oct 1902 This is outlaw Jim Younger who committed suicide in the Reardon Hotel on 19 Oct 1902. >>
Thanks Linda. I suppose the first one could be the son of William & Nancy, but there's no way to know at this point. I'll keep digging, but you saved me a trip to the library tonight! :-)
The LDS library borrowed the microfilm of the Biblical Recorder and indexed the obituary notices. There are three volumes. I found the following Youngers. Younger, James. Died at St. Paul, Minn. 22 Oct 1902 Younger, Mrs. Jane Agnes. Wife of Josephus Younger. Baptist. Formerly member of the Methodist Church N. of Granville Co, near Roxboro. 11 Aug 1897 Younger, Miss Malinda. Member of the Mill Creek Church. 20 July 1898; 27 July 1898 (I guess both dates were given so both were included in the index).
