There is an index book called Heads of Families at the First Census of the United States; taken in the year 1790. It listed the following for VA. All Younger, the # is apparently the page # George, 31 James, 52 Joseph, 87 Thomas, 88 William, 23 William, 23 William, 87 William, 88 I found this at the Carlsbad, CA library. I'll be there again next week. I'll try to find it again and they probably have the microfilm too.

Wilma, I was going through some files from Mabel Motes this morn and she agreed with you about Homer being "Hanner" (Hannah). There is still considerable difference in some of the ages, but ?? Linda, the page # looks to be 17. They were dwelling 158 family 158 in Water Creek Twp. Living next door was Alexander and Lucinda Younger. Other surnames were Taylors, Parks and Baker. William Estes was listed as her son, but Ellen Younger was just listed at home. The copier did not copy birthplaces, but I had written them in and am wondering if I wrote Nancy's incorrectly. I have she was born in IL, but for Wm. mother I have TN. When you check it, could you check this for sure also. Helen
Correction. Hit an extra "g". They were my gg grandparents. If they stopped in TN, I am not aware of it. I really think they came through to AR and they were from NC. Yes, I wondered about the ages, but have to remember that sometimes when the family wasn't at home, the enumerator asked the neighbors! And that also might explain why the younger children were not listed in one of the census. ----- Original Message ----- From: Helen McMindes <calark2@yournet.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2001 9:43 AM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Two Thomases/ Two Elinors > Wilma, I was going through some files from Mabel Motes this morn and she > agreed with you about Homer being "Hanner" (Hannah). I don't know if this helps any or not, but thought I'd pass it on. I bought the 1790 U.S. Federal Census Index (AIS) CD put out by Ancestry.com. I only find one Joseph listed: he is Joseph in Wilkes Co. NC page 122. There were no other Joseph's listed. Anywhere. There is one Joseph Yonger in Kent Co. MD; a Junger (no first name) in Berks Co. For Mary "Mollie" Younger, my source is the Armistead Younger book from Stone County, Ark and their source was Dreat Younger, another source is Roma E. Lenehan, and another is Halifax County Vir marriages. I can't retreive them all cause I don't always keep everything. Believe I concluded that Patience and Mary were the same person. So Patience Mary "Molly" Watkins. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brownie MacKie" <BMacKie1@compuserve.com> To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 7:30 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Marcus Younger > And where did you find that? The documented facts are as follows: There was a Joseph Younger who lived in Wilkes Co., NC and married Elizabeth Gray on Feb. 6, 1790. They had 5 children living at the writing of Joseph's will in 1823: William, Joseph, Harrison, Nancy Green and Sookey Dowell. I have a LOT of info on THIS family, but can't find a single child's name on the female lines......yet! End of facts. End of documentation. I have a lot of info on THIS family, but can't find a single child's name on the female lines......yet! Joseph is presumed... and I repeat... presumed.... by probably 90% of all Younger researchers to be the son of Thomas Younger and his unknown 2nd wife. (Wilma, I'm not sure how you put him with Mary Northern, but I guess anything is possible.) We do know that Thomas had a son named Joseph, as Joseph is named in Thomas' will. Based on circumstantial evidence, I'm 90% convinced to join the 90% who feel Joseph is the son of Thomas. The other 10% still considers my Joseph's parentage unknown and will continue to explore any avenue that opens up. I used to say that he fell out of the sky and landed in Wilkes Co! As for Joseph's descendants, I have seen several posted genealogies online for him where I can find as much wrong as right in them. I am the only researcher on this list (that I'm aware of...I asked any others to please stand awhile back, and no one responded) who is a direct descendant to Joseph Younger of Wilkes Co, NC who died in 1823. Therefore, this means a lot to me and I am forever asking for documentation of Joseph's parentage from other researchers and never get any....because there's not any? There are so many Youngers with the same name in the same areas at the same time that sometimes placing children with parents is like playing pin the tail on the donkey! So, pin Joseph where you may, but as his direct descendant, I want the documentation!!!!! (Willie, back me up on this!) There was a Joseph Younger on the 1790 Halifax Co, VA census. He is one factor at this point that keeps me from jumping to 99% certainty that my Joseph is the son of Thomas. Anyone have documentation that identifies Joseph of Halifax with any Younger family??? That would help a lot! :-) I began my quest over 2 years ago by spending 4 hours straight reading posts at the Younger genforum. I found nothing on MY Younger family. I called a cousin who's father researched the family in the 1970's. I picked up his research, including a box of letters and documents that have helped me immensely!! For example, I can place Kanzada Younger of Whitley Co, KY (posts from yesterday) in my family because I have a letter written in her own hand to her mother-in-law, my gr-gr grandmother. We have covered all the known records of Joseph Younger before on the list. No need to rehash all that. But, before the next person publishes some completely erroneous data on this branch of the Younger family, I wanted to set the record straight. (Or as straight as it can be!) Oh, thanks Wilma!! For the record, I don't have a Joseph as a son of James and Anna Nash either...for what it's worth! ;-) Nancy
I will need a little time to digest this information but I am delighted to receive it. Thank you. JYG wrote: > Wilma H- > This is long but I wanted it in one post. That is a piece of information that is absolutely enlightening. Thank you so much for sharing that. I think that is the missing piece we have been struggling to find and you had it all the time. An heir or representative is usually the next of kin. Even though there may have been many Wilson Cage's I doubt sincerely that you will find two who are associated closely with a JHWY. Your assumption that he is the Halifax County Wilson Cage is most likely correct. I would like very much to examine the document you have referenced. You don't happen to have it do you?
