Wilma I would like to assume this is James, brother to Armistead, William and Williamson. I don't have a birth date for James so I really can't connect them, If James is born about 1818 then it would fit that the just about the whole family moved to Carroll Count, TN.

I have a family group sheet on Mary Younger, b. 11 Mar. 1792, Chatham Co, NC, daughter of Thomas Younger and Mary Nall. She married John Mayberry, son of Henry Mayberry and Mary Magdelena Carnes (or Polly Corrance). The marriage was 18 Jan 1817. They had a son named Joseph Younger Mayberry b. 4 Sept 1823 in Hickman Co, TN. Joseph Younger Mayberry married Charlotte Olofson on 4 Jan 1864. This sheet also says that John Mayberry married 2nd. Patcey Younger. Is this info correct? Does anyone know who Patcey Younger is?

Sorry about that, regarding John W. Younger, I think he married Rebecca Smith Layman. in the 1850 Census, you find John Younger, age 15 (which could be wrong) and Thomas Younger living in the household of Roysdon Layman and wife Rebecca of 28 years. they have a one year old son James R. Layman.both John and Thomas show their birth places as Tennessee. Now in the 1860 census you find John Younger (31) a Blacksmith married to Rebecca (28). Children William J. 4, Elizabeth 2, and then Thomas Younger at 19 is listed as and ap Blacksmith. The ages are what's confusing. The census taker listed Thomas last, and usually what they did was list the direct family children first starting with the oldest. I know this may be way off the mark, but feel strongly that Rebecca is the same. even though the two census ages are so much different. Something happened by the 1870 census, cause Rebecca is not in the household anymore.

Thanks Wilma. Perhaps Newton is deceased. In 1870, Adeline (or maybe William is the writer) says in a letter that their family is small, only 4 in the family. Mary is married, so one child must be deceased. Or Amanda is deceased and Newton has moved away???? They are both old enough to be on their own in 1880 and Amanda is quite possibly married by then too. This last son is obviously Azel, after his Uncle Azel (we know census takers can't spell!) Is there anywhere online to find IL marriage bonds? Thanks a million!

The letter is dated in the summer of 1870 and their daughter Mary was married in Dec. of 1869. I would like to see if any of this family is in IL in 1880. Adeline was alive, but I don't know about William. If you can find William Cook, Adeline Cook or Newton Cook in 1880 in IL, that would be helpful. But the hard part is finding Mary and seeing who she married. If you can search in IL for someone born in NC??? Parent's born in NC too (at least I know Adeline was) She would have been married 11 years in 1880. Or if you can find any of the other family, she may be listed nearby. Any help greatly appreciated! Out of curiosity, do you have any additional info on Mary Nall? As I was searching through the Court Minutes of Wilkes Co, NC, a William Nall figured prominently. He was an attorney and in the early records in the 1780's. I couldn't help but wonder if he is related to Mary Nall, and if that would be yet another tie in of Joseph Younger to the rest of the Youngers in the VA/NC area.

Mary did have a brother named William Nall but he would be to young to be the attorney, he was born about 1772. I submit this in case there are some surnames here that you might recognize since you have been working with the family. p.89 John Mills, age 36, witnessed a will in 1683 p. 90 Will of John Mills Probated 26 June 1683 (which you previously submitted) Witnesses: John King, John Roberts, William Mackenny p. 114 1684 - John Mills executor of the will of Jane King (apparently not the deceased John Mills above) p. 117 1685 - John Mlls witnessed the will of of Nicholas Putle p. 118 1685 - John Mills witnessed the will of William Moss, Sr. p. 126 1686 - John Mills witnessed the will of John Lincoln p. 142 1689 - John Mills witnessed the will of John Lincoln I have no David Mills in my records. I have a couple Daniels but their entries are fairly insignificant; witnesses. That sort of thing.
