You are absolutely right. I have even wondered if the Armistead Younger in the court record could have really been Armistead Bomar instead of Armistead Younger whom I believed to be too young to function in the role required - but that would just be guessing- Brownie MacKie wrote: > Armistead and Elizabeth Younger Bomar had guardianship for a while, I > believe. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bob Younger" <byounger@onemain.com> > To: <YOUNGER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, August 20, 2001 10:39 PM > Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Documentation that suggests Thomas is the father of > William > > > > > Wilma, the 1809 Halifax County VA Order Book 8, p42 had to be directed at > > another Armistead. That was exactly my point. I knew the Armistead who was son of William would have been too young to serve in the court capacity. The question remains - who was he? where did he live? I don't have any answers for this question. Bob Younger wrote: > Wilma, the 1809 Halifax County VA Order Book 8, p42 had to be directed at > another Armistead. My gg grandfather was born in 1811. Wilma, the 1809 Halifax County VA Order Book 8, p42 had to be directed at another Armistead. My gg grandfather was born in 1811. The 1841 court order could have been my gg grandfather. Doesn't make sense, unless two Armistead's handled the case. I only have 3 Armistead's and one William Armistead in my files and they are born 1811 or after. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilma C. Halifax County VA Deed Book 9, p. 91 18 June 1773 William Carpenter, carpenter, from John Dudgeon 200 acres in Antrim Parish for 62 pounds, 10 shillings Halifax County VA Ded Book 11, p. 310 1776 William Younger to Gideon Ragland 215 acres on the north side of the Bannister River, land purchased by William Younger from Foil Hubbard, executor of Benjamin Hubbard. (Note: the location of the land is interesting. See below:) Halifax County VA Deed Book 14, p. 276 7 Mar 1888 Mark Younger from Meador Anderson and wife Sarah 100 acres on Branch of the Bannister River Halifax County VA Deed Book 14, p 281 7 Mar 1888 John Younger [editorial note: son of Marcus] from Meador Anderson and wife Sarah 100 acres on Branches of the Bannister River for 60 pounds. Although it is clear from the participants involved, William Younger is referred to in one reference as Williamson Younger: Halifax County VA Court Order Book, p. 415 March Court 1805 The court ordered the division of the lands of Williamson Younger by Mary, widow of Williamson Younger Sarah 120 acres James 105 acres Josephus 116 acres Mary 105 acres Cathy 116 acres Elizabeth Bomar 147 acres John 97 acres Williamson 122 acres Demand from Williamson Younger by William Sydnor, Atty., against James, John, Armistead, Williamson Younger by guardian Armistead Barksdale that Sydnor sell to the highest bidder the lands and slaves which Mary Younger, dec'd, held in her lifetime. {Note: Although the document states that Mary is deceased, subsequent records indicate that she did not die but remarried. See below:} Halifax County VA Court Order Book 7, p. 474 27 June 1808 The within written account of Stephen Huddleston (Editorial note: second husband of Mary Watkins Younger) in right of his wife, Mary, late Mary Younger, guardian of Cathy, John, Josephus Younger as returned by the commissioners appointed to settle the same by the court. Stephen Huddleston due to each orphan: Cathy 95.8.9 John 97.12.6 Josephus 88.7.10 In 1809 Stephen Huddleston was no longer the guardian of Cathy John and Josephus Halifax County VA Order Book 8, p 42 Armistead Younger is the guardian of Cathy, John, and Josephus Younger. This is the Armistead which seemed too young to me to be guardian if he was the son of William and Mary By 1818 Cathy and John no long appear as "orphans". Sarah is deceased. Williamson is the guardian of Josephus and is responsible for cash from Sarah's estate, cash from the Watkins estate, cash from rent of land and Cash from former guardian (Fielding Bomar 1815) All of the above is presented here to demonstrate which William Younger we are following. In 1841 there was a settling of estate accounts which was a mixture of funds from Williamson, William and Thomas. It is as follows: Halifax County VA Minute Book 9, pps. 186, 189, 191, 193, 221, 223, 225 August Court 1841 Court ordered William Sydnor, Administrator of Williamson Younger, dec'd $383.77 (already paid $99 by Giles McGraw to pay Josephus Younger $264.82 [editorial note: son of Williamson] also Giles McGraw to pay Josephus Younger [an additional] $50.24. Elizabeth Bomar [editorial note: William's daughter] $200.27 (Armistead Bomar having been paid $500 in his lifetime). To pay William Younger, Williamson Younger and Thomas P. Anderson [editorial note: husband of Elizabeth Younger, Williamson's daughter], administrators of James Younger, dec'd. who were the children of Williamson Younger, dec'd. $4,350. Armistead Younger and John Younger, children of Williamson Younger having been paid their portion of the proceeds of the land that he (Sydnor) retain as the sons of THOMAS YOUNGER, dec'd the sum of $40.57. [Pay to the sd administrator of John Younger, dec'd the sum of $161.26.
