    1. Re: [YOUNGER] GOD LIVES UNDER THE BED
    2. Would that we all could be like Kevin in our faith. Thanks for sharing. Bette Andres -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, 27 Oct 2006 11:44 PM Subject: [YOUNGER] GOD LIVES UNDER THE BED I figured you might like this. >From Robert ------------------------------------------------------------- GOD LIVES UNDER THE BED I envy Kevin. My brother Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night. He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped to listen, "Are you there, God?" he said. "Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed..." I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room. Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered long after the humor. I realized for the first time the very different world Kevin lives in. He was born 30 years ago, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labor. Apart from his size (he's 6-foot-2), there are few ways in which he is an adult. He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7-year-old, and he always will. He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Claus is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them. I remember wondering if Kevin realizes he is different. Is he ever dissatisfied with his monotonous life? Up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed. The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child. He does not seem dissatisfied. He lopes out to the bus every morning at <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />7:05, eager for a day of simple work. He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores. And Saturdays-oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes and, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. "That one's goin' to Chi-car-go!" Kevin shouts as he claps his hands. His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights. And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips. He doesn't know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth of power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be. His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working. When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax. He is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of argue. Free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God. Not confined by intellectual reasoning, when he comes to Christ, he comes as a child. Kevin seems to know God - to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an "educated" person to grasp. God seems like his closest companion. In my moments of doubt and frustrations with my Christianity I envy the security Kevin has in his simple faith. It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions. It is then I realize that perhaps he is not the one with the handicap . I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances - they all become disabilities when I do not trust them to God's care. Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn? After all, he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark and soaking up the goodness and love of God. And one day, when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we are all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I'll realize that God heard the simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed. Kevin won't be surprised at all! When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do. There is nothing attached. This is powerful. Just send this to four people and do not break this, please. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards. 2. receives this message be blessed. REMEMBER to say a prayer before you read the poem. That's all you have to do. There is nothing attached. Just send this to eleven people. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost but a lot of reward. (Did you pray?) Make sure you pray, and pray believing that God will answer. This is your last opportunity before reading the poem. May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.... May you be content knowing you are a child of God... Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. Now, send this to 11 people within the next 5 minutes and remember to send this back...I count as 1...you'll see why. 3. KIM, Now that you mention that research I do remember seeing it before! -----Original Message----- >From: Kimberly Dowe <[email protected]> >Sent: Oct 17, 2006 10:22 AM >To: Younger list rootsweb <[email protected]> >Subject: [YOUNGER] Joshua Younger > >Now that I know how to get on this site, I will answer Judy's question here. Judy wondered if I knew why Joshua and his wife, Catherine Yoter Younger moved from Kentucky to Indiana. This is what I have: From his Revolutionary War file dated July 20, 1818, Judge John Trimble of Nicholas County, Kentucky, writes that Joshua Younger "is in indigent circumstances and stands in need of the provisions made by law for Continental soldiers, he is poor, old, and has been disabled." He was unable to work and in further court papers on March 31, 1829 in Carlisle, Nicholas Co., KY, Joshua states his occupation is a farmer but that he is "unable to follow it." States he and his wife had their son Garrett, 22 years old, and Garrett's wife, 20 years old, living with them. "Neither myself nor wife has been able to support ourselves by our labour for many years past, and I am much indebted for necessaries to support on. And what little property I now have will be sacrificed to pay my d! e! > bts and will not pay one half of it." Goes on to list what property he has in his possession at that time which totaled to $119 in his estimation. > >In 1819, Joshua and Catherine's son, Stever Younger, left Kentucky for Indiana and settled first near Fayetteville and then to Bedford, Lawrence Co. area. > >In the 1830 census of Nicholas Co., KY Joshua Younger is listed as head of household and it appears as Garrett and his wife and 2 children are living with them. Next on the census list is Joshua and Catherine's son, Lewis Younger. (My direct line) In 1833 Joshua made request to have his pension transferred to Lawrence Co., Indiana. "At his advanced age, he felt the need to abandon independent living and take up residence with one of his sons." Joshua died in Lawrence Co. on Aug. 2,1834 and is buried in Leatherwood Cemetary in Bedford, Indiana. He probably left Kentucky with his son Garrett as this is who we find Catherine living with in 1840. > >The 1840 census of Lawrence Co., Ind. shows that Joshua's widow Catherine is living with her son Garrett and his family. Also in the area were his sons Lewis and Stever. His daughter, Elizabeth Lee, from his first marriage to Elizabeth Lee, was married to John Mack Lewis and living in Orleans, Orange Co., Indiana. In the 1850 Shawswick, Lawrence Co., Ind. census, Catherine is living with her son Lewis who is widowed with 9 children living with him. She may have moved in there to help with his kids as his wife, Nancy Crose Younger, died in 1848. > >I do not have much information on Catherine. I have seen her last named spelled in several ways, Yoter and Yeater. There first appeared in Hampshire Co., VA in 1786 a Peter, 1788 a Joseph, and in 1790 a Conrad Yeater. I have done really no research on this side yet. Guess I should start! > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

    3. In case anyone is interested -- here is a correction to the FOTY book regarding the marriage of David J. Younger (son of William Ashley and Catherine Phelps Younger. The FOTY book gives their marriage location as Hancock Co. TN -- the correct county is Robertson Co. TN. I found the marriage listed in two different places 1) Tenn. 3. Hi Judy, This is my second reply. I looked up the Younger Brothers Construction Company on the WEB. It's a relatively new company and apparently has no connection to Younger Brother, Inc that operated out of SF many years ago. I don't believe that I'm related to them. Jim Younger III of this company may be interested in giving a DNA sample to our project. Younger Brothers Construction 7101 N.W. 2. Steve
    3. Hey Brownie, That's me (Steve Yerby) that is still looking for Phoeba/Pheba Jane Younger. The one listed here is not mine. My Pheba Jane Younger was born about 1841 in Tennessee. To date we've not been able to find her listed with a family, although we do have her listed as "wife" in an 1860 Texas Co., MO census, and also an 1870 Jacksonport, AR census. Pheba's maiden name was on Newton GROSS' death certificate. We're guessing that she was married probably in Arkansas about 1859, to James M. GROSS. Their first child, Newton Montgomery GROSS was born Apr.18, 1860 MO, possibly Texas Co., MO. Long story short, Pheba Jane YOUNGER is yet to be found in an 1850 census. Skipped over?? Family re-locating during census time?? Too remote of an area to have heard about census being taken?? Endless possibilities I guess. Anyway, I feel like Jacksonport AR area may be some sort of clue as to where her YOUNGER family may have settled, either in that particular area, or nearby. James M. GROSS enlisted in the Confederate States Army in that same general area of Arkansas in the early years of the Civil War. And as most everyone else on the YOUNGER list, we've also been told that "we are kin" to the YOUNGER BROTHERS/JAMES-YOUNGER GANG, not proven. Jacksonport, AR is near Newport, Jackson Co., AR & some of the neighboring counties there are Independence, Stone, & Izard counties. If my memory is any good, I seem to remember at least Independence & Stone Counties showing up on this list with YOUNGER families. Pheba Jane YOUNGER, 1841 TN married James M. GROSS, Sept.15, 1837, AL - 1873, Texas Co., MO **{James 2nd marriage was to Mary E. VANDIVER, July 14, 1872, Texas Co., MO}** Pheba & James' children are; Newton Montgomery GROSS, Apr.18, 1860, MO - Nov.21, 1931, Centralia, Lewis Co., WA Claibourne F. Jackson GROSS, Dec.27, 1863, Texas Co., MO - Aug.21, 1939, Biggers, Randolph Co., AR (my line) An interesting side note, the YOUNGER's were part of Quantrill's Raiders during the Civil War, and there were also VANDIVER's mustered in with the Raiders. I've seen an internet site that states the YOUNGER's & VANDIVER's were somehow cousins. I personally haven't gotten into these lines of family as I've been stalled out on Pheba Jane Younger, & Mary E. Vandiver. A by-line for James M. GROSS is that he was arrested & suspected of murder in Texas County, MO in 1867. Not sure how that turned out as it was recorded at the end of that particular court record book, and the continuance was made in a new book. This could possibly explain how or why they ended up for a time in Arkansas in the late(?) 1860's & 1870. I still need to research some more on this particular item of information. Oh & Brownie, I also remember you sending me something via the YOUNGER list about a Pheba Jane GROSS, divorced & living "somewhere" during the late 1800's? - early 1900's?, but due to some computer glitch, the info somehow got eaten alive by this wonderful contraption, that & I had to start everything from scratch. Could you maybe pass that along again please when you get it handy?? No hurry tho. Thanks, Steve Yerby ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]>

    3. Hi Judy, I'm curious about the Younger Brothers Construction Company in Phoenix. You said way back. How far back?? There was a Younger Brothers, Inc operating out of S.F. in the 1930 and later. They did construction work throughout Nothern California. I don't know if they were active in AZ, but I know who they were. I can tell you more about them if you wish. They were my father's cousins and their grandfather (my great grandfather) was William G. Younger b. IL 1839, d. CA 1922. They may have thought that they had a connection to the outlaw gang, but my DNA seems to indicated that there was no connection. 2. ......have looked at the family of Williamson, b.1782 mar. Mary Bomar as possible parents of William Alexander b. 1815. No. Mary's and Williamson's son William was born in 1803-04 and married Priscilla Jones. By the way, I had the pleasure of spending time with a Bomar cousin, Dr. William Bomar, this past summer, and the chart on the Bomar marriages is interesting since nearly every one of them married first cousins...including Bibby, who more than likely married Anna, daughter of William Bomar, brother to John. Just a little aside there. :-) Brownie

    3. I have looked at the family of Williamson, b.1782 mar. Mary Bomar as possible parents of William Alexander b. 1815. He definitely could fit into that family at that time frame. They are start out in Halifax - travel to Tenn. - some stay and some move on to Ark.
