Hi, Bobbi! No, I didn't get an answer. :-) Thanks for asking. Have a great Thanksgiving. We were going to NC, but Jim didn't feel good, went to the doctor, and he's going to have surgery next week to remove his gall bladder. So we're staying put. :-) Brownie On 11/20/06, Roberta J. Does anyone have Younger family born in Alabama? I came across this in the 1850 Carroll Co. TN census: William P. Younger 28 fmr AL Susan J. " 20 TN Millard T. " 2 TN
Wilma, I looked at it 400% zoomed and saw another "Jeo" Nutt #8 above. I think it's "George" and the census taker used a J instead of a G. Geo is the abbreviation for George. ??? I'm probably wrong, but that's my gut feeling right now. Maybe it's for Jethro. ???
Thanks Brownie, I was thinking George also, but thought maybe someone else might have a better idea. I checked all my "George" names and nothing fit. I don't have a Jethro. In the 1870 Paris P.O., Henry Co. TN census there is a "Jeo Younger, 70 farmer VA. He has a John 35 NC, Ruthena 34 TN and Bettie 9, Mary 6, and William 4 (all born TN) living with him. I believe the John is son of James Thomas and Rebecca Shepperd, and the children are his and Lucinda P. Emerys. But, I can't figure out who the Jeo would be -- does anyone know what that would be an abreviation for? It's on pg. 437, image 13 at ancestry.com if anyone wants to look. Wilma
Pat, you are correct. Thank you. The IGI has the records on line. You just have to sort out member submitted files from extracted local records. I had no trouble finding Christening records for Alexander and siblings. Before the advent of computers in the Family History Centers these records were available on microfiche. If you are fortune enough to go to a History Center that never throws anything away you probably can find those microfiche, take the appropriate name to the printer and print them out. I find using these print outs at home very advantageous over using the CD version in the library. They contain the same information. These records date from about 1855 backward to the 1500s. Civil registration began in 1855. You can order a microfilm of the original church records and sometimes find more information in the church register. Perhaps someone can answer this. Does the computer IGI that we access at home contain those Scottish Church Records? I think it does. I researched a family that immigrated 1900 to NYC, found them on 1881 and 1891 Scottish census and followed what appeared to be their ancestry on these Scottish Church Records, and earlier census. I subscribed to GRO online for a short time to prove or disprove my guesses -- they were surprisingly accurate. GRO is the Government Record Office. It has a web site to which one can subscribe (summer 2004 the cost is £6. approximately $9.00 for calendar 48 hours, and can be charged to a credit card) in order to access civil registration marriage, birth and death records. That cost includes so many "points" which can be applied to printing out documents. At that time most of the online records were post 1855. Pat Finnell

Bette, Which family history center do you go to? Just curious. I live not too far from Family History Center in Salt Lake City. Martha Welling
No. Due to contractual agreements with Scotland, only family history centers are allowed to own and use the Scottish Church Records on CD-ROM. You can access various Scottish records on the Internet through the General Register Office for Scotland (www.gro-scotland.gov.uk). Because of contractual agreements, the Scottish census records and the Scottish church records were made available elsewhere online. Therefore, they do not appear on FamilySearch Internet. To find Scottish census records online, go to the official Internet site (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk). Note: Scotland does appear on the compact disc version of the 1881 British Census, and the Scottish church records are available at your local family history center in the FamilySearch 2.27 program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know - if you find it let me know. I've been wondering (and I think I will check and see) if it's available for purchase. If I find out, will let you know. Thanks to all of you who supplied so much information on Youngers in NC. I learned a lot, and now if I can get these old bones going, I will see what I can find at the Family History Center. You all gave me three more counties that I did not know of. As for church records, well they were lost, burnt and in some cases, were considered the property of the minister. Several of my lines were very difficult to trace as the clergyman took the records with him and I looked for a number of years to see if they were in some collection. They were in an other state. Anglicans and RC kept records in the church while Methodists, Baptist, and several others were very apt to follow with the clergy. In Pennsylvania I never did find any civil or church records in the late 18th century and few in the early 19th. Again, thanks so much. Bobbi, I found them in the CD "Scottish Church Records, Version(s) 1.10 and 2.01" as transcribed by the LDS Church and found in the FHC Library in Lodi, CA where I used to live. I believe the cd's are available in all Family History Center Libraries of the LDS Church. This set of cd's gives christening dates and names of parents (I believe). It's been a long time since I found them. Also marriage dates. A gold mine of information. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: "Francis Younger" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 12:40 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Alexander's Will > Has anyone ever made the attempt to find Alexander and Andrew in Scotland? > I have never done Scottish research and have no idea how to go about it. > > Bobbi Estes > > -------------- Original message -------------- > From: "Francis Younger" <[email protected]> > >> Thank you, this is great. Thank you, this is great. I thought it said he had a brother, Andrew, in Scotland. This confirms it, so some Youngers have Scottish ancestors. Hey, Bob....good to hear from you. Jim and I motor home, and much of my research has been done "on the road" so to speak. Y'all have fun. Maybe we can meet somewhere sometime! he is as much my son as if I were his sperm father. We have three adopted grandchildren....yes, they're ours as much as if they were born to us. That we understand! Thanks again for the vote of confidence. And I WILL keep up the brainstorming. Whether anybody likes it or not. :-) Brownie On 11/14/06, Bob & Beverly Younger <[email protected]> wrote: > > Brownie, > > I for one want to thank you and your family.
