You all have probably seen this bookstore. But if you haven't they have eighteen pages of books on the Youngers including marriage records of Maury and Williamson County, TN. And they mention which Younger is in every book. Pretty interesting if you haven't seen it.

Don't believe they would have been the same, one was buried in Texas, the other in Missouri. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leni Lopez" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2007 5:11 PM Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Younger Military Records Texas > Wilma. Thanks for clearing that up. I see now they were the sons of their eldest son, George Worthington Younger. Another thing that was throwing me was the designation, Judge. I hadn't seen that anywhere before. He was listed as a farmer in 1860 and was dead by 1865, so he must have became a Judge after the 1860 census. Regarding John being the one discussed in the narrative, John and George were both in the 1880 Navarro Co. census, living together and also included John's wife and child. So, we'll have to come up with a different John who died before Alexander. John in 1880 census is 32, born TX, living in Springhill Town, and he is a physician. Brother, George, was the enumerator and a grocer. FIRST CIRCUIT COURT. Monday, August 12, 1833, the first term of the circuit court for Greene county, convened at Springfield "at the Court House." Hon. Charles H. Allen ("Horse" Allen) was judge; Thomas J. Gevins was circuit attorney; Charles P. Bullock, a son-in-law of Judge Allen, was clerk; John D. Shannon was sheriff. A grand jury was empanelled, consisting of the following gentlemen: Alex. Younger, foreman; Peter Epperson, Dan'l B. Miller, Joseph Rountree, Bennett Robinson, George Yoacum, John Pettijohn, Reuben Harper, John Fulbright, Daniel Johnson, John O. Lock, John Mooney, Ezekiel Campbell, Ephraim Jameson, Wm. Lunsford, Sam'l M. Scroggins, Samuel Vaughn, Humphrey C. Warren, Robert Patterson, Samuel Garner. But little business was transacted at this term except by the grand jury. Thos. J. Gevins and Littleberry Hendrick were admitted to practice as attorneys and "councellors," and there do not seem to have been any other lawyers present. The only case disposed of, and the first heard, was an appeal case from the northern part of the county, which was entitled "Manual Carter vs. Nathan Newsom." --------------------------------- Have a burning question? Wilma I found it ! 1833 was the year he became Judge THE AUGUST ELECTION, 1833. The first election in the county after its organization, occurred August 5, 1833. It has been found impossible to obtain completer records of this election than the poll books of Campbell township, containing the vote for Congressman. The township cast 103 votes, of which George Shannon received 96; James H. Birch, 3; John Bull, 3; George F. Strother, 1. The election resulted in the choice of John Bull, of Howard county, who only served one term. Wm. H. Ashley was his colleague, at that day the State only having two representatives in the lower house of Congress. Of Mr. Bull's competitors, J. H. Birch was a prominent lawyer; Gen. Geo. F. Strother was an old pioneer who had been with Lewis and Clark, in 1804, and badly wounded in an encounter with the Indians; Mr. Shannon was a prominent citizen, and, it would seem, Greene county's favorite. The judges of election for Campbell township in August, 1833, were Joseph Rountree, Alex. Younger, and D. B. Miller; clerks, Thos. F. Wright and J. M. Rountree. The election lasted three days, or from the 5th to the 8th of the month, under a provision of the law in force at that time, designed to allow all the voters "from the back settlements" to attend the polls. Wilma, I saw that also in regard to John, I tracked John Younger in the census you mentioned. So I knew there had to be another John in the family . Because the John mentioned in Darcus's story died before Alexander did in 1866 ( I would take a guess it was a recent death of John for Alexander to still be so raw ,so a possible death date would be 1865-1866 ) Another clue. As for "Judge " he became a judge while in Missouri so that was before the move to Texas. We will have to do some more digging to find the date of his appointment. I was looking for more clues ,so I was reading about the Shackelford family. When Martha Jane Younger married Gabriel Shackelford in 1841 Mo. The other articles said he married the daughter of "Judge Alexander Younger " So it is possible he was a already a Judge by 1841.To be referred to in that way. I did not previously know he had ever been a Judge. But as all the other family members are mentioned I know this is the right Alexander because Jane Merchant Hancock is mentioned also. After he "retired" and moved to Texas he was a plantation owner " Farmer ". Last night I just kept thinking WOW I have to share all of this.I was really surprised.Did anyone else know about this ??? Gen.com has the marriage listed. Wilma, A side note here..... I had to go to the Census and look to prove it was our Judge Alexander Younger. It was the name of John that threw me off. You will find Alexander & Jane in the 1860 Texas census in the household are John and George. Alexander is 73 and Jane is 60 ,John is 12 & George is 11. Alexander is the only one & the date of birth for all is an exact match. I went back to Arkansas & Missouri Census's also. They are in Navarro County Texas. I then looked up all the other names mentioned and they are all within a page or two. And later I went to Dresden Texas to search for Darcus after she married and was free. Brownie, I was talking about two different things. In the Hardin e-mail. I was talking about the Youngers-Hardin connection. In the second e-mail I was talking about the Josephh Younger. someone was referring to in an earlier e-mail. That's why they had two different titles. The Joseph Younger who was from Wilkes County. Married a Gray and his relation moved to Switzerland County, IN. I thought he was related to Alexander Younger but in some e-mail I have read in the past. It seems unsure if he was. If anyone is ever interested enough in that line, I will be glad to give Michael Younger a call. Do you know anything about the line of "gang" Younger who was done recently and there is no information as to the name of the line on FamilyTreeDNA? -----Original Message----- >From: [email protected] >Sent: Jan 28, 2007 12:52 PM >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Joseph Younger > >I cannot donate one more penny.
