Hi Pat, That doesn't pertain to Marcus situation since he would have been the youngest or one of the youngest children. The fact that there was no guardian appointed for him was the nail in the coffin, not the will itself. I slammed a door a few days ago on the possibility of Marcus of King and Queen Co being unnamed son of Alexander (d. c 1726) in his will. I was way off base. I have to reopen that door a bit. If any owned land was not specifically disposed of in a will it fell under the laws of primogeniture and automatically went to the first legal heir. These primogeniture laws were replaced in the 1780s. If you all haven't read the wonderful book "A Place in Time" by Darrett and Anita Rutman, it is well worth the expense of acquiring it (look on Amazon.com or any of the big listers of used books) and the time to read and study it. Brownie, it's still possible he did have that first name of William, but the Stone County Genealogical Society who did a whole lot of work on him and his line never suggested that he was a William Armistead. Or it could be that whoever gave the information for the death certificate gave "oral history" or made an assumption.....no way to know now. Thanks so much Mark. I've copied Anne so she will be in touch. I'm getting ready to be gone for 2 weeks from Oct 4 - 18 and have a grandbaby due shortly thereafter, so I'll be completely without internet for awhile then very behind and probably distracted after that for awhile:) Bobbi -----Original Message----- From: younger-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:younger-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mark Younger Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 6:11 PM To: younger@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [YOUNGER] Marcus Father Named as Alexander No problem just wondering if there was new source - yes let me know what I can do here in Memphis Mark Younger CFM Director Facilities Administration Hilton Hotels Corporation Memphis Operations/Data Center 755 Crossover Lane Memphis ,TN 38117 Tel: 901 374-5458 Fax :901 374-5458 -----Original Message----- From: younger-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:younger-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Roberta J. Apologies everybody Birkenhead, Cheshire, England
Thanks, Wilma. I must have missed that one. I'll go in one of these days and see if I can pull it up. - Stephen On Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 1:34 PM, Wilma (Younger) Norton <wilma.norton@cox.net> wrote: > I got the name from the Scottish Church Records CD at LDS FHC Ver. 2.00 and > the marriage date from the same source. Is anybody else out there in Rootsweb-land interested in the YOUNGER family from Birkenhead. In the 1881 census they were the only family of that name in Birkenhead. My grandmother Ethel, a schoolteacher, was born two years later Ethel 13 April 1883. She married my grandfather Samuel Rowland in 1920 and died in Churton by Aldford 23 Dec 1941. There are several stories about her and her family which we have been unable to confirm or disprove and are now looking for anybody else who is researching them. In hope, Geoff Rowland
