Mr. Dance and Mr. Mangram have asked for more information about the James M.Youngblood in my Youngblood family, so here is what I have. He was b. Dec. 16, 1833 in Greene, TN. He was my great-great-great Uncle. He became a Surgeon for the Union Army in MO during the Civil War. He joined the Army when he foresaw a future war. He was already a physician, and early on he was put in charge of a hospital. Later, I believe he did some time on the front as a surgeon. He is listed as follows: FRS., 317, MO Infantry, Asst. Surgeon. Following the war he moved with his family to St. Louis, and had a busy practice there, and he was kind, and took care of many poor people without charging them. He died of some kind of liver ailment in his 40's, and I have a newspaper clipping stated that people hung sadly around his office building mourning his death for days afterwards. His wife and children moved to somewhere in the NW part of Texas. His wife was of French extraction, and had grown up in VA. Her name was Volumnia Orso Xaupi. They were married July 6, 1863. James parents were William Youngblood, and Elizabeth Garret Youngblood. Wm. was b.in SC ca. 1807. Elizabeth, b. ca 1811, was the dau. of Jacob Garret and Barbary Jack Garret. She was b. in Greene Co., TN. She and Wm. were m. Dec. 21, 1826 in Greene Co. TN. Wm. and Elizabeth died in the latter 1800's in Bollinger County, MO. They had 8 children besides James, who was the 2nd son. The others, in order of birth were: Alfred M., John G., Martin V., Barbary, Mary M., Wm. O.B., and Sarah A. Alfred also fought in the Union Army, and was killed at Patterson, MO the last year of the war. It appears that the three other sons fought for the South, and after the war was over they all moved to Texas, not too far from what is now the Dallas area. I must go now, but I will write again soon to tell you more about the family that James and Volumnia had. Beverly Rich
