Researching my gggrandfather, Charles R. Youngblutt. According to US census data, he was born in Hesse Darmstadt in April, 1824. The records show that he came to the US abt. 1837, and became a US citizen in 1847. He married Lydia DARING (or Young, two docs give two different maiden names) before 1851 (their first child Jacob was born in Ohio in 1851). If these dates are correct, he would have arrived in the USA at the age of 13 - based on that, I am considering the idea that he came here with his parents as opposed to coming over alone. He eventually lived in Van Wert and Mercer Counties in OH. My gggrandmother, Lydia DARING was born in Pennsylvania. It is possible that my gggrandfather arrived in Pennsylvania before moving to Ohio. Another person researching people from Hesse Darmstadt mentioned his DOERING ("americanized" to DARING) family from Hesse Darmstadt who settled near Scranton, PA. Charles's trail is pretty cold - I have only found a few records that even let me know he existed - specifically: the 1900 census (he and his son, Henry, are living as boarders near his daughter, my ggrandmother); my ggrandmother's death certificate; and a blurb about my ggrandparents in a Mercer County history book which shows he and Lydia as my ggrandmother's parents - it also said they were living in Van Wert County, OH (very close to Mercer County). I know that the Youngblutt translation is kind of strange - part English, part German. It is possible that any relatives who arrived with him changed thier names to YOUNGBLOOD - or kept the more German verison, JUNGBLUT(T)(H).
