Coz, Reba, in her words, "compiled" her book, "The Youngblood Family" recording mostly demographic information (names, marriages, births, deaths); there are a limited number of actual records or letters. I found only the following references to Indian heritage. (I include more information rather than less in case you wish to pursue these surnames to find yet more information. Y is Youngblood.) In a letter to Mrs. Eugenia CLARK OLIVER (d/o Lucy Ann Y LAMPTON) from Mary LAMPTON REID dated 8 Apr 1936. "If it is not asking too much I should like to read the letter written by a BRUMFIELD descendant telling some Indian stories, the same as had been told us concerning the 'Granny Manning,' Susanna Youngblood and Elsie WOODRUFF....A granddaughter of Elsie WOODRUFF, Mrs. W. A. DANIELS, lives here (Magnolia, MS), and may possibly give some additional information. This Elsie WOODRUFF who married a COLLINS was a great friend of my grandmother LAMPTON." In a letter from Mrs. Susie BRUMFIELD WARING (gr d/o Hanna Ann Y) to Mrs. OLIVER, dated 28 Jan 1936. " ... but some things I do remember was what Grandmother (reference to Hanna Ann Y) used to tell us about their troubles with the Indians. Yes, she told us about some Indians." (She continues to relate incidents with Indians, but nothing that would indicate a relation.) That is all. I can tell you that for many years, I have heard that our YOUNGBLOOD family has some Indian heritage. However, after looking over the many records, I just don't see it. I did have an interesting experience recently while on a genealogy expedition in MS. My cousin and I stopped in an area near Pulaski and struck up a conversation with the men picking peas. Told them we were looking for ancestor connections in the area and mentioned Youngbloods (among others). "Oh," one said, "you looking for the Indian families?" Surprised me! I had not expected that. So, It seems to be common knowledge (even outside the family and in the community) that Youngbloods are somehow connected with Indian heritage. However, I haven't found any in this Y lineage. Regards, Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land, TX BTW There is no mention in this Y lineage of Youngblood shortened to Young.
My father was George Lawrence Youngblood -b. 1912 in North Augusta,SC d. 1998 in Charleston,SC. His Father was Basil Manly Youngbloodof North Augusta,SC. Buried in Old Magnolia Cemetary in Augusta , GA. His father was Amos Youngblood-No middle name.Born in 1842 in Barnwell County, Williston Township, SC, in 1842--served in McCrary's Brigade of the 1st South Carolina Infantry for the duration of the war.(The Late Unpleasantness, that is) . He is buried in the same cemetary. As far as I've been able to find, His father was an Amos Youngblood as well.He and ANN---- his wife are on the 1840 census but she is listed alone in the 1850 census with 2 sons--Amos and Ellis. He would have been born about 1820. Also listed nearby in those two censuses are Reason Youngblood and Samuel Youngblood . Any help out there for me? ---------- >From: Charles & Nancy Royall <cnroyall@wcc.net> >To: YOUNGBLOOD-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [YOUNGBLOOD-L] (no subject) >Date: Mon, Aug 9, 1999, 7:14 PM > >>From the Wallace Roll of Cherokee Freedmen 1890/93 > >Wallace Roll # 833 Youngblood, Savina age 44 Sequoyah >Dist Clifton Roll# >2142 >Wallace Roll # 834 Youngblood, Reed age 21 Sequoyah >Dist Clifton Roll# >2143 >Wallace Roll# 835 Youngblood, Wynona age 19 Sequoyah >Dist >Wallace Roll# 836 Youngblood, Ada or Ida age 16 >Sequoyah Dist >Wallace Roll#837 Youngblood, Blanche age 13 Sequoyah >Dist Clifton >Roll#2144 >Wallace Roll#838 Youngblood, Victoria age 7 Sequoyah >Dist Clifton >Roll#2145 > >There may be others on other rolls. > >Charlie Royall > > > > >
Charlie, Hello Cousin! Thank you for the offer to "bring me up to speed" on your line descended from Benjamin & Susannah. Reba HOLMES BROWN had precious little on your line. I do not know why. BTW: Reba's lineage is as follows (briefly) ("Y" stands for Youngblood) Benjamin Y m: Susannah COLLINS > Henry Y m: Sarah M. HARVEY >John Pearl Y m: Matilda Elias NORWOOD > Nonie Carrie Y m: David Johnson HOLMES > Reba Laura HOLMES (b:30 Aug. 1900) You write, "I am also a descendant of Joseph and Susanna, through John A. McLeod who married Susanna Youngblood Dec 15 1841 in Caddo Parish, dau of Henry Youngblood and Sarah Harvey." From which of Susannah Y. and John McCLEOD's children do you descend; Kate, Norman, or Angus? As I said, Reba has very little in her book on your line, but there is an interesting note from her mother. It reads, "And -- Genie Pearl (Y) Hart, oldest child of John Pearl & Matilda Elias (NORWOOD) Y, owned a hotel in Crystal City, TX during the 1930s and 40's, and she said that a McLeod boy visited her and her husband there. He was a descendant of Aunt Susannah (Y) McLeod." Regards. Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land, TX

Pat, I read your email. I hate to disappoint you, however. Reba HOLMES BROWN's book covers the descendants of Benjamin YOUNGBLOOD and Susannah COLLINS and none of your people are in here. I plan to spend next week at the Clayton Genealogical Library. I believe they have a couple of other Youngblood books. I also have some other Y connections and will pass on your line to them and inquire. Even though you have been stuck, you have wonderfully detailed information. It will make it easier to spot when I'm researching. I'll let you know if I find anything. Don't give up; the link you seek is out there, just waiting for you! Regards, Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land, TX

Good day list, This is the first posting I've made on this list. I am descended from Benjamin & Susannah. A reference to Reba Holmes Brown's book, "The Youngblood Family" was recently made. I have the book and am willing to look up information in it if any one is interested. I also have corrections to the book as well as more information (going a few generations further back). Heretofore, I have concentrated on allied lines. I have made great connections with wonderful people and am now eager to do the same with my YOUNGBLOOD cousins. Regards, Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land, TX (Adoptworks@aol.com)
I have been researching the Youngblood surname for over a year now and I have hit a brick wall. My grandmother was Edith Nora Youngblood - b: 2/18/1922 d: 10/11/1972 @ mobile Al Her father was: Charles H. Youngblood - b: 8/17/1879 d: 8/28/1947 @ Laurel MS. He married Lena Edna Upchurhc in 2/5/1910 His father was - John Youngblood. All I know about him is that he was born in Georgia. He married Margaret Galloway. She was born in Newton Cty, Mississippi so I figure they married there. Thought there are no records of the marriage. Margaret died in Jones Cty Mississippi in 1924.She was a widow at that time. This is were my brick wall is. I can't find any information on John Youngblood. It is said that my ancesters came from Cherokee Indian. My Great grandfather "Charlie" He sure looked like and Indian from his pictures. Anyone with information would be greatly appreciated. Or even where I should look next??? Akent111@aol.com

According to this book your Amos Caril Youngblood I, b. 1770-1780, and my William Youngblood, b. ca 1806, were brothers. In a way this seems preposterous because they, according to said book, also had brothers who married in 1787 and 1788, thus making them about 40 years older than William. Perhaps they were all half brothers to William. This book lists their father as John Youngblood, b. Oct. 17, 1734 in Ann Arudel County, Md, who m. Mary______. However, Dorothy Quaife says that this John Youngblood could not have been the father of Amos and William because this John had moved to Georgia long before they were born, and William, at least, was supposed to have been b. in SC. William m. in Greene County, TN and lived there for sometime. According to this book, Amos and William's siblings were Abraham, Isaac, George W., and Joshua. Please let me know if you got your information about the descendants of Amos Caril I partly from this book. You seem to basically have more information than the book has, but occasionally the book has more. Your facts (dates, names and places) seem to jive with the book. Do you know if we have Indian ancestry? I have much information on the family of William Youngblood down several generations even to the present, in some cases, but I wish I knew more about his ancestry. My William's son Alfred m. Mary Jane Williams in Mayfield, KY May 30, 1850, and they spent their married life living in Graves County, KY some years, and living in Cape Girardeau or Bollinger County, MO the rest of the time, which is where his father William settled. Mary Jane is buried in Graves County as are two of their daughters. Alfred was my great-great grandfather. In one Mayfield, KY census record, it appeared that Alfred and your Amos lived very close to one another. I very much look forward to hearing from you, and any other kinfolk, and will be happy to share what I have you might find of interest. Beverly Rich --------------0824A854A61278CA0F6FB51F--

We are in the same line with the Collins/Youngblood. I do not know if I have the info u need. It has been 15 years since I researched it, so it is not fresh in my mind. I have been on other lines for years. Give me some time to go back and see what I have. I have learned to never trust memory. There is just too many names running around in my head! Charlie Royall

Since the Youngblood group has been swept into activity, I thought I would post my query again. I am looking for the parents and siblings of JOEL YOUNGBLOOD (b. 1807 SC) and JAMES WALKER YOUNGBLOOD (b.1812). Joel married Elizabeth (Betsy) Allen and 2nd Mrs. Francis Cox. Hi, I am looking for any information on Elige Youngblood m. Jane Leonard. All I know about them is that they had a daughter, Lilla, in 1882 in Georgia. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Elaine
Thought I'd through my names into the hat, just in case someone might have run across them. I am trying to find the parents of Daniel Newman Youngblood (b. March 17, 1816 somewhere near or in Jacksonville, FL). He was called Newman and married Cornelia Ann Louisa Pickett on August 11, 1838. He was a farmer and soldier, fighting in both the Seminole Indian Wars and the Civil War. Their children were: Andrew Jackson, Sidney Seymour, Louanne Elizabeth, Robert Taylor, Cornelia Ann, James, Samuel, John, Lugenia and Olivia. The family moved to Hillsborough County some time in the 1850s and settled in the Safety Harbor/Tarpon Springs area. Daniel Newman died in 1876. It is believed that Daniel Newman Youngblood might be a descendant of Jesse Youngblood of SC, who is the first Youngblood that we can find in FL. (Jesse is listed in the 1784 Spanish Census.) So far, we have no proof though. Any and all help would be appreciated. Jannie
