Does anyone have any information on Turner Youngblood (born in AL circa 1840) or Maggie Beck Youngblood (born in MS 1848)? Maggie Beck was a full-blood Choctaw. I believe she was moved to southeast AR (or maybe Oklahoma and then AR) as part of the Mississippi Trail of Tears of the Choctaw Nation. Maggie and Turner (marriage date and location unknown) had 6 children, all born in southeast AR, between 1871 and 1887, I believe in the Ashdown and Mineral Springs areas. The children were - Walter Youngblood 08/1871 Turner Youngblood (Jr?) 06/1880 Olive Parilee Youngblood 04/1881 Hubbard Youngblood ??/???? Just found out that my Youngbloods were Cherokee Indians. Any more of you out there? Also, I mentioned to one related Youngblood Rootsweb member I found through this website that my family is full of red heads, and that somewhere along the way I had heard that the Mayfield, KY Youngbloods (mine lived there a long time ago), are tall people and lots of them have red hair. This was in reference to my being surprised about the Indian heritage. She wrote back she has red hair too. Is this common among Youngbloods, or just common among those in the Graves-Calloway County KY area who have Cherokee roots? Are there other Youngbloods out there with Cherokee roots from MO, TN, KY and SC? Maybe we can pool our data to find our ancestors using this clue. Beverly Rich

New Orleans was a major Port of Entry for Scots, Germans and Irish Persons in the 1800's. New Orleans Chronology 1820 The fourth national census showed new Orleans was the 5th largest city in the U.S. after Boston. population of the city was 41,000 while that of the state was 153,407 1831 April 23 The Pontchartrain Railroad of Capt. Grant was completed and offered both freight and passenger service. It was the first railroad to be built west of the Alleghenies. Oct. 25 The first Cholera epidemic hit New Orleans; about 6000 died in 20 days. 1840 New Orleans became the 4th largest city in the U.S. with a population of 102,193 1844 May 18 fire destroyed 10 square blocks of the city bounded by Franklin, Canal, Common, and Claiborne Streets. May 24 Sam Houston spoke in New Orleans on behalf of the Texas cause. July General Zachary Taylor left New Orleans with 1,500 men for the Mexican Campaign. It was not reported how many returned. 1847 Dec 3/5 Gen. Z. Taylor, the hero of the Mexican War, was welcomed to the city by a crowd of 40,000 people. 1849 May 3rd A serious flood in the city severely damaged 220 inhabited blocks of the city and drove 12,000 people from their homes. 1850 A Cholera epidemic that fanned out into the midwest was reported in the city. 1853 One of the most severe epidemics of Yellow Fever took the lives of 11,000 people in New Orleans, while the populations of many towns were totally wiped out!!!!! 1860 The population of New Orleans reached 168,675 of which 40% were foreign born, with 24,000 Irish and 14,000 Germans. General Butler issued Order #28 making any woman in New Orleans liable to treatment as a Prostitute if she in any way showed disrespect for the Officers and Men of the Union Army. June 7th Under orders from General Butler, a New Orleans man was hanged in front of the US Mint for having taken down the Federal Flag. 1866 A mild Yellow Fever epidemic took a toll of 185 lives in the city. 1867 A Yellow Fever epidemic hit the city and took over 3,000 lives. 1870 The city population reached 191,418 1878 A serious Yellow Fever epidemic took a toll of 4,046 lives in the city. 1880 The U.S. Census gives the population as 216,090 persons, of which 57,723 were Colored. There were 566.2 miles of streets in the city, of which 472.34 were paved. The Street Car System had 140 miles of single track with 313 cars pulled by some 1,641 mules, with 671 men employed. The fare was 5 cents at all times. 1897 Sept. 4th A serious epidemic took more that 6,000 lives. During these epidemics, a wagon would go down the streets, collecting the bodies. in most cases it was unknown who they were. They were taken outside the city and cremated in large numbers daily. I have some information on Absalom YOUNGBLOOD b.abt. 1806 in TN d.abt. 1876 in Pulaski Co.,IL and Moses YOUNGBLOOD b.abt. 1813 in TN d.abt. 1871 in Pulaski Co.,IL; they were brothers and I believe they were sons of Aaron YOUNGBLOOD -- father of Solomon; Absalom was my husband's g-g-grandfather.

There appear to be 3 distinct groups of Youngbloods in LA dating from middle 1800's. It is my gut feeling that these groups are going to be related. They all have origins in Georgia. If each of these groups will keep each others descendants on file, I think a link will be found. There are just too many similarities to be an accident. Charlie

YOUNGBLOOD was born in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, GA in 1794 and as he was married to Electra JONES IN 1816 in Franklin County, Illinois he must have located there before that time. He died in Perry Co., Illinois on 1 Aug 1850. We would be interested in any information concerning the parents of Isaiah Youngblood or anything else concerning his roots in Georgia.
