Hello, Good to see all the YOUNGBLOOD activity - I descend from Samuel and Gracie Ann MARTIN YOUNGBLOOD - Samuel was born in Edgefield, SC about 1788 - his first wife was Martha ----. Samuel shows up in the census in Abbeville in 1810 and then moved (before 1820) to a farm on the banks of the Keowee River where he lived, died, and is now buried. It was then Pendleton District and is now Pickens County, SC. My line migrated many miles since 1820 and now exists about 8 miles away in the town on Pickens. Most of Samuel's descendants are very well documented - his ancestors are not as well documented - some believe his father was also Samuel ((Southern Indiana Youngbloods). Can anyone help with the puzzle? David Youngblood

Nelson and other cousins, Oops, I forgot to put in the salutation on one of my posts; the "how to unsubscribe message" was meant for gooch@gte.net, who posted, "don't send me anymore." Sorry to all. I was just offering a congenial way for gooch to not receive anymore unwanted postings from our list. Regards, Joyce
Dear cousins, I am spending time in Houston's Clayton Library, Center for Genealogical Research, about 3/4 hours a day. The way I research (at least for the time being) is to peruse every book by State, looking for the surname. Of course, this means that I gather data for every YOUNGBLOOD residing in the State. My proposal is to post my findings each day on the lists, including sources. I hope people will find this beneficial to their own research. I don't know how long I'll continue. If I don't post in the evening, it's because I didn't go on that day. I do, however, want to be up front and say that I am, of course, researching for MY line which happens to be ancestors and descendants of Benjamin YOUNGBLOOD and Susannah COLLINS. I'll title the subject line "YOUNGBLOOD Research." If you do not want to read it, you can simply delete it. I will periodically offer resources that I find and think may be useful. I realize that some of you have been researching for many years and, of all probability, will have much, if not all, of the data I'll post. I am an amateur who happens to love research, particularly genealogy. Hopefully, this will help newer researchers. Finally, if my postings offend anyone for any reason, I apologize now. I find genealogy fascinating. I corresponded with a great aunt (our family's genealogist) for over 35 years and have waited for the time in my life when I, too, could pursue family ties. She has given to me all of her accumulated files. I'm fortunate. Since I've been on the net, I have found people to be very generous; I hope to offer the same. Sincerely, Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land P.S. My first posting will be three days worth of notes

I found books about Youngbloods in that LDS >library, and one especially, the Maberry book had names very like some >of ours seen in the census records, and they were MO. people, only >living in Ray County, near Bollinger, so I wrote the author, and also >several of the Youngblood researchers the author had interviewed for his >book. He had listed their addresses. I heard from one of those >researcher's only, and she was a descendant of Mary Magdalene >Youngblood, the 6th child of Wm., and she had all the family history >sheets on Alfred and William. She also had the Civil War records on >Alfred Youngblood, and the application letters written by Alfred's wife >and her mother-in-law to Washington D.C. to try to get a widow's pension >for her and her 7 children. She had to prove that these children were >hers. Her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Garret, a midwife, had delivered all >of them, and had not properly registered their births, so it took quite >a few letters before Alfred's widow finally was able to receive her >pension. I was sent copies of all the correspondence which this >researcher had secured from Civil War Pension records in Washington D.C. >I also looked up Civil War military records on all of William's sons >while in Salt Lake, and found that two sons fought for the North, and >the three youngest ones, for the South. > >I found, through the LDS library, on either their AF, or IGI, (are those >the right initials?), some of the names that were on the sheets that I >had been given by the descendant of Mary Magdalene Youngbood. This was >on my 2nd and last trip to Salt Lake. I copied down who submitted the >information I found there, and wrote to these people, and through that >heard from researchers on the lines of William O. B. Youngblood and >James M. Youngblood, so I learned all about their descendants. One >informer I wrote to was actually an LDS missionary working in the >library during the time I was there visiting, only I didn't know that at >the time. She had been there helping people with their genealogy for >two years. I found that out when I returned home, and wrote to her. >She called me on the telephone answering my letter. In trying to find >the parents of our William, she had had research done by a genealogist >at the library, and she sent me his sheet listing 10 possible fathers of >our William Youngblood. > >When I got a computer, I spelled Youngblood on Yahoo.com, and got Wayne >Youngblood's website that way, and read what he wrote about this family, >and on Youngblood-L@rootsweb.com, I found Dorothy Quaife, who answered >some of my queries, and these lead me to finding the "Thomas Youngblood >Family" written by Margaret Ann Cloys and Ollis Smith, and one of these >is Wayne Youngblood's great Aunt. Anyway, all this line that I had >already learned about is listed almost perfectly in it, and with a few >additional facts I had previously not known. The hard thing about it >all is that we still don't know who William's parents are, and we aren't >even sure that William belongs in this book right now. He must belong >there, but how come his brothers are 30 and 40 years older than he is? > >All this has taken about ten years of sporadic search. Months go by and >I do nothing. I think I have been very lucky to find as much as I have >found so far, and mine is not the most orthodox way one should go about >searching. The correct way is to write places of death and birth, and >get copies of the birth and death certificates, and go back that way. >Death certificates usually have the parents' names of the deceased, the >spouse' name, and also the place of birth of the deceased. So, that >gives you a whole new earlier generation, and a place to go to write for >a birth certificate. > >I have mostly been successful thanks to having had ancestors who were >curious enough in the last 75 years to want to know their family >history, and to keep track of their descendants, and to put it all on >paper. Hey Youngblood Family, I live in an area where I am Three hours from a Library that has the 1900 Georgia Census Index and the 1880 Census Index. I have a Library 45 minutes from me that has the 1900 Census and the 1880 Census. I have heard some people have the 1900 Georgia Census Index and the 1880 Census Index at their home. If you have the index would you look up my grandfather for me? I f someone with the Index at home could just give me the County and page number of potential matches for 1900 and 1880 I would appreciate it. Thanks for any help. As I get more information I will share it with anyone that it would be helpful to. Here is the information: Elbert Augustus Youngblood (could be E.A. or Elbert or Augustus or Gus) Born ~ 1959 Jan 6 and died Jan 2, 1948. (info from his grave sight) Buried at Rocky Mount Church Turner County, Ga. Married to Permilia Meadows (daughter of John Meadows and ?Beaty?) Children are believed to be: Elbert, John Green b. 1889, Eugene, Gertrude, Emma, Ezra, ? May have lived in Dooly Co, GA or surrounding counties no one knows. May have had brothers named (John I and "Lon"). Thanks for your help! James Benjamin Youngblood, Jr.
Dorothy, I've also read that Albert YOUNGBLOOD's wife's name was Nancy. However, I do not believe that to be true. Everything I have -- going back 40 + years, lists his wife's name as Lillian. I do not have proof, but will work to find a record. After Albert's death, it is believed that his sons, James Albert b: 9 Sept 1825 d:10 Feb 1904 and William T. b: 30 Sept 1823, d: 18 Apr 1912, lived with their aunt and uncle, Nancy and Charles TONEY. Nancy was Albert's sister and Charles was Lillian's brother. Regards, Joyce Zachman, Sugar Land, TX P.S. I descend from William T. and his first wife, Nancy Jane GRAY He is my gr gr grandfather
I'm from the Youngblood family around the Detroit area. I have very little information and dates are approximate, but maybe what I do have will ring a bell for someone. As I understand it, the Youngblood name in this case is a translation of Jungblut and the family was originally from Austria. Daniel Youngblood (born 1860's), married Loretta Causley (born 1870's). Children: Daniel, Harold Francis (born 8/7/07), Charles, Bernard, James, Jack (John?), Mary, Therese. Harold Francis Youngblood, married Jennie J Highstreet in 1932. Children: Anita, Joan, Nancy, Kathleen. Elected to US House of Representatives in 1948. Any cousins out there? Kathleen Youngblood Elleray

Dates...ca.1890-ca.1896... Scope & Content...John W. Wallace compiled the original rolls for the Authenticated, Admitted, and Rejected Freedmen, and the Free Negroes. Because of discrepancies, additional supplements were added. Individual entries give name, age, sex, residence, and other pertinent information. The individual rolls are generally arranged alphabetically by initial letter of surname of head of family, but occasionally they may first be divided into groups and districts.... General Note...These rolls were created because the Cherokee citizenship of many ex-slaves of the Cherokee in Indian Territory was disputed by the Cherokee tribe. The establishment of their status was important in determining their right to live on Cherokee land and to share in certain annuity and other payment, including a special $75,000 award voted by Congress on October 19, 1888. A series of investigations was conducted in order to compile the rolls of the Cherokee Freedmen. These investigations were conducted by John W. Wallace, 1889-1890; Leo E. Bennett, 1891-92; Marcus D. Shelby, 1893; James G. Dickson, 1895-96; and WIlliam Clifton, William Thompson, and Robert H. Kern, 1896-97.... Contributors...Compiler, Wallace, John W....
