    3. Youngblooders, I think that many of you are forgetting the protocol for effective use of a listserve. It's a great tool for reaching many people with general communications, i.e, general questions, general pearls of wisdom, etc. However, specific messages addressed to individuals should not be sent to the entire list. Send them to the individuals who have responded in interest. Good: Does anyone know about W. X. Youngblood... I just found the book "All American Youngbloods Before 1750", anyone interested in a copy? Bad: Hey, Charlie, would you look up Ivan Youngblood for me. Susan, I think you've done great work on your Youngbloods. Please, let's be a little courteous of the 95% of us who have to scan and delete 98% of the messages. 1. [YOUNGBLOOD-L] Sara's Confusion
    2. DOROTHY M QUAIFE
    3. Sara - I'm not sure whether the first rule of genealogy is "Don't assume" - or "Don 't believe everything you read" - they rank pretty close together :-) To help "un-confuse" you - my James (d. 1792; Edgefield Co., SC) was not the same James (wife: Jemima) in GA.. It's "possible" that Benjamin (wife: Susannah Collins) was related to the Johnston Co., NC branch (John Miles Youngblood), but at this point, Benjamin's father is unknown. My opinion on Amos Caril I - If he was born in Edgefield Co. SC (1784-1794) - age 16/26 in 1810 and married, with one child - so he's likely about 23. This would place his date of birth (roughly) about 1787. IF John Miles Youngblood, Jr. (b. 1734) was the John who petitioned for land in GA in 1771 and had 7 kids - this would indicate that he married maybe about 1756 (age 22) and had a child every two years. We don't know if he had more kids after this, but I really doubt that he had a son in Edgefield Co. some 16 years later. (He could have but I think his wife would have been too old). As I told Bev, fifteen years of trying to tie William (b. 1806) to Amos Caril I has produced only one fact - that they lived in the same county in KY for a short time, which really doesn't mean anything. Which reminds me - if anyone is looking for James, oldest son of Henry and Sarah (Harvey) Younglood, he was with his son, James, Jr. and family, in 1900 Wheeler Co., TX - where my Youngblood was. Does this help? Dorothy

    1. [YOUNGBLOOD-L] Confusion!!!!!
    2. Sara Youngblood
    3. Dorothy & others, If I wasn't confused enough about James and his parentage before, I really am now. In a note to me not too long ago, you wrote, "I think I told you that the assumption of our old James being the son of John Miles Youngblood was incorrect." Recently you responded to Benjamin saying, "If I recall correctly, I believe Arthur, Sr. was a bro. of Nathan (among others), and sons of James & Jemima. James was "probably" a son of John MIles Youngblood, but I wouldn't swear to that :-)" Are we talking about two different James or what? Does this mean that Benjamin and Susannah are related to John Miles Youngblood? What about Amos Caril Youngblood -- does he fit into John Miles family? And William Youngblood, b. abt 1806? Is he part of the same family? I'm just so confused, and would really appreciate having someone set me straight down here in this 103 degree heat. I'll sure appreciate it. Sara

    2. Cousins, If you are a descendant of Benjamin and Susannah, would you please E-Mail me and let me know? While I'm researching YOUNGBLOOD at Clayton, I'm also gathering whatever I can find on COLLINS. I am, however, attempting to stick strickly with Sussannah's family and NOT every Collins I run across. I'd like to send this information separately than that which I send to YOUNGBLOOD-L@rootsweb because others wouldn't want it since it would not pertain to them, only connections with Benjamin and Susannah. I'd also like to gather as much information as we all collectively have and put it together. (to share, of course) Regards, Cousin Joyce

Joel in Baldwin Co., p44 has 2 males under 5, 1 male 5 - 10, 1 male 40 - 50, 2 females 5 - 10, 1 female 20 - 30 and 1 female slave 10 - 24. This obviously isn't your line either. So, at least according the records of the 1840 census, they weren't in Georgia in 1840! Wanted you to know that I still have your line in mind while I'm researching. Regards, Joyce P. S. Do you have relatives in Houston? When you decide to visit the Clayton, let me know and I'll try to meet you there. It's a WONDERFUL place. My children and I will spend a few hours there today. They are budding genealogists!

    1. [YOUNGBLOOD-L] ROOTSWEB ADDS JUNE 1999 SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX (SSDI)
    2. Cousins, You may have already seen this post, but just in case... Joyce Zachman Now you can access the most recent version of the SSDI at Rootsweb <http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi>. Accessible fields include first and last names, date of birth, month and year of death, last residence, last benefit, Social Security Number, and the state where it was issued. You can narrow a search to a particular state, country, city or zip code, or to a particular date of birth or death, by using the Advanced Search Feature. When you find a record of interest, you can automatically generate a printer ready letter to the Social Security Administration requesting a photocopy of the actual application for a Social Security Number (Form SS-5-Social Security Number Record Third Party Request for Photocopy). This new database, which is running on two new high-performance servers, is another example of your contributions at work. The more that you contribute, the more free genealogical data Rootsweb can make available to the Internet community of genealogists.

    1. [YOUNGBLOOD-L] Draft Card
    2. Charles & Nancy Royall
    3. Forwarded From Another List: I am sending this on. Charlie Royall M. Dean Hunt Louisville, KY Good Morning everyone: I played hooky from work yesterday and spent the day at the NARA Branch in Atlanta and it jogged my memory to pass on some information to everyone. Prior to the US's entry into WW1 (approx. 1917-1918) every male between the age of 18 and 40 was required to register for the draft. The information found on the card was provided by the individual himself. The registration cards vary in information depending on the individual draft board. But by and large the cards include: The full name of the person (this means first, full middle name, any additional middle names and last name); the current address of the man; his age; his birthdate (some include his place of birth); whether he is a US citizen or a naturalized citizen (some ask if his father was a naturalized citizen and his father's race); his race; his occupation; where he is employed (name of employer); address or location of employment; name and address of his next of kin; some cards ask if the man is married or single and how many people he supports. The card is signed by the draftee. On the back of the card his physical description is noted: Height is broken down by short, medium, tall although some cards give the actual height in feet and inches; Build by slim, medium, stout although some cards list actual weight along with the build; color of eyes and hair; any deformities or injuries are listed (such as one arm missing, blind in one eye, etc); the name and address of the draft board and the date. When these original cards were transferred to the East Pointe NARA branch the LDS spent about 3 years microfilming these cards. There are hundreds and hundreds of boxes and the LDS opened one box at a time and filmed them - in state order. However, within each state the cards were filed by draft board, not by county or by draftee. This makes the searching of the microfilm difficult to say the least. The good news is that the Friends of the National Archives took each box after it was filmed (and checked) and sorted all of these thousands and thousands of cards into - state and then COUNTY order and then in alphabetical order by surname and put then in new boxes. The Friends deserveall the kudos we can give them for this monstrous task. So ... rather than spending hours and hours searching the LDS microfilm you can order copies of the original cards from NARA. if you know the county your ancestor lived in between 1917-1918. And BTW - Ancestry.com lists WW1 Draft cards in their searchable data bases, however I know for a fact that there are 22 cards for the surname WHITE found in McIntosh Co, OK and Ancestry only gave me 4 of them so don't depend on that site. I was told yesterday that some reps from Ancestry had visited the archives a couple of weeks ago to talk about filming the cards, took one look at the hundreds and hundreds of boxes and simply left. For copies: Send a letter requesting copy(s) to: NARA Southeast Region 1557 St. Joseph Ave East Point, GA 30344 In your letter be sure to say you want copy(s) of the WWI Draft application Cards. Include the name of your ancestor and his race, the state and the county. If you want copies of ALL of the cards with a given surname, ask them the cost of the copies and send a SASE for them to let you know the copying cost. In your letter be sure and say you want a copy of the FRONT and BACK of the card. Be sure to send a SASE for the return of you copies. The cost for the copy is 50 cents - 25 cents for the back and 25 cents for the front. If you only want one copy send a buck and say the difference is to be given to the Friends of the Archives, because after all they did all this wonderful hard work for you <VBG> If you have any other questions about the cards please write to me and I'll try to help. I've been "delving" into these cards for the past few years. But PLEASE don't ask me to get the copies for you. It is difficult for me to take the time off from work to visit the archive to do my own research <g>. And feel free to pass this on to any of the lists you are on.

    3. To Mrs. Zachman and everyone else who is sharing with us the fruits of their research and knowledge of the Youngblood family, Thank you. My printer is going full blast and I have every confidence that one day just the right bit of information will pop up and I can then add another piece to the puzzle of my elusive Youngbloods. Gail
