I see that there have been several postings about Young ancestors whose name changed from the German Jung to Young; this is the case with my own ancestors, who arrived around 1700 into PA. It sounds like many of you are at the same point I am - wanting to know just where they came from and some of the circumstances that brought them here. There is a home page for an organization called Palatines to America, located at http://palam.org/~palam/#iareg. I haven't paid the fees or joined up yet, so this is not exactly an endorsement, but they are located in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, NY, PA, VA and WV, as well as Columbus, OH, not far from me. They have lots of sources like ships records. I may cough up the fees and start visiting to see if I can work further back than I have so far. For those of you "youngsters" whose folks came from Britain, I can recommend a little book that costs about $12.00, called "British Origens of American Colonists." (by William Dollarhide) The chapters describe when various migrations occurred, and where different groups came from. It's easy to read and has big maps! I think I got it from Heritage Quest or Higginsons. I'm not trying to begin a practice of endorsing products, just mentioning what helps me. Before I got this book, I didn't even realize that my English ancestors were Puritans from the 1630s! With this info, I discovered some amazing things in my own heritage. Good luck, listers.
