Jean, That's an interesting fact that Polly is a nickname for Margaret. I thought the nickname was Peg or Peggy. I'm always learning something new. Thanks! Polly is nickname for Margaret, so obviously this lady was named after her Grandmother, Margaret McBride who was married to John McCurdy, and whose daughter Jennet mar Matthew Young. I believe Polly b 1801, is daughter of John and Rachel Davis Young (son of Matthew and Jennet). She mar James Young. Which of her cousins is this? Would appreciate anyone identifying line of James. He was probably born about 1800-1801 like Polly. Thanks, JeanW mccoy@gvtc.com

I'm looking for a Lucy Young or Lucinda Young who was born and reared in one of the counties bordering the Green River in KY. She went to White Co, ILL.(where she evidently had relatives) and married Josiah Ward (VA> IN>ILL) in 1835 near Stealey's Mill and had one son, Leonard Ward, b. 1836 from whom my father descends...I thought I was following the correct Leonard Young who died in 1821 but my Lucy(who appears on 1820 & 1830 KY Census) was not among the children he had with Mollie; then I found he had married Doggett and she had a sister named Lucinda...but, did she have dau. Lucy ? This is the first time I have written a query to the Digest so if I did it incorrectly, please forgive - wanda G. Gilchrist

The Russelville Times has this to say of a well known Lawrence county gentleman: R. M. Young, one of Mt. Hope's most excellent citizens and leading planters, was in the city Tuesday on business and honored our office with a highly appreciated visit. Mr. Young presented The Times man with one of the largest and finest peaches we ever saw grow in Alabama. It measured ten inches in circumference and weighed over one-half of a pound—another proof that northwest Alabama can not be excelled for an all-round country anywhere. Dear list, I am researching a Young family that came to Butler County, OH in the early 1800's from Sussex County, NJ. Moses Young (1791-1880) farmed in Liberty Township and married Eliza Lewis (1801-after 1850) in 1817. They had these children that I know of from Censuses and a biography: Christinia, 1820; James Riley, 1821-1902; Squire L., 1822; Peter, 1823-1891; Phoebe Y., 1828; Sarah E., 1832; John W., 1835-1863; Catherine C., 1837, Thomas Benton, 1841; and George W., 1840. Christinia married Lewis Emmons before 1850. James Riley, my ggggrandfather, moved to Keene TWP, Adams Co, IL where he married Sarah Landers and they eventually ended up in Iola, Allen Co., KS. Squire followed the same path, married to Sirilda Manlove. Peter served in the CW, moved to Mendon, Adams Co, IL, became a doctor and Moses, the father, lived with him from the 1870s till he died. Christinia, widowed, lived past 1900 on the family farm in Liberty TWP, Butler Co., OH. Does any one know about this family? Any relatives left? I would love to connect and share what I have!
