    1. Re: [YOUNG] Sarah, daughter of Solomon
    2. The article says Peacock had followed Gen. Donophan down to Mexico, His long weary march, his fevers and dysentery were part of the price this country paid for the great southwest. Then he loaded salt, corn meal, and salt pork into a prairie schooner and followed the trail of the 49ers to California. Then asks could the rough life he led on those 2 adventures have given him the courage to face down the guns of Jim Crow Chiles. This is the 2nd place he calls him that. The first was the beginning paragraph of the article. Also it says James Peacock was appointed judge of the police court in 1894. Also the article says he was the first Mayor to have six miles of wooden sidewalks built He sites as source Ref. Back in Independence, Mary Paxton Keeley. Sarah Young, daughter of Solomon Young is says is the Aunt of Harry Truman. Most places the article refers to him as Jim Crow, but it does in two places call him Jim Crow Chiles. I did see the article says: "He was married to Harry Truman's Aunt Sarah, the daughter of Solomon Young." Judy Born with a twelve foot question, looking for a six inch answer.

    2. Just for fun, I looked in the 1880 census and found these. I did not find a Jim Crow Chiles in Independance, but did find a Jim Crow, single man. Did this take place prior to 1880? Sally may be Sarah, his widow? If so he had other children, it seems. 1. [YOUNG] Sarah, daughter of Solomon
    2. This must be the time for me to find some information for some of you on the Young list. This article I found in a newspaper dated Aug. 7, 2002 by Ted Stillwell and he calls it Portraits of the Past. The captions says How James Peacock got rid of Jim Crow. It starts out saying Independence was wild in its early days, but it had never dealt with anyone as wild as Jim Crow Chiles. It goes on to say he came from a good family, but rode with Quantrill during the war and was never able to settle back to a respectable lifestyle. The article says he married Sarah Young, the daughter of Solomon Young. It also states they had a half blind son who most likely the only person in town that liked Jim Crow. It says he had the town in fear and rode a black stallion named John Morgan through the town shooting out window lights in the midst of night. Women would hide faces in shawls & Negroes feared for their lives, with just cause. It says the town marshal was afraid of him as he was deadly accurate even under the influence of whisky. The article goes on to tell about James Peacock running for marshal and promising to rid the town of Jim Crow if elected. Four people were shot at the town shoot out. 2 lived, James Peacock and his son, 2 died Jim Crow and his 8 yrs. old son. Peacock became a hero and was also elected marshal for 2 more terms and was elected mayor of Indep. in 1882. The story tells the preacher that taught Jim Crow his 10 commandments laid him to rest with his half blind boy in Buckner Cem. It was a very interesting piece and for those of us studying the Young name when you find a part to help a fellow genealogist you try to do so. This is a good half page of a story in a thing called The Examiner's extra. Judy Born with a twelve foot question, looking for a six inch answer.

    2. The last one I come across in the Vol. II, History of Warren Cty. Ohio page 1045 I will do the same as I did Dr. Young. I do not see any information that would help you know the family this is: Samuel Harris at the age of 14 went with his parents to Loudoun Cty. Va. where he served a 7 year's apprenticeship with James Young, at the carpenter's trade. This is all the Young's mentioned in Vol. II and all I will print until I get my husband to give up Vol. I so I can read it. Judy Born with a twelve foot question, looking for a six inch answer.

    2. History of Warren Cty. Ohio the next in the book on page 942 is found in the bio. about Rev. Isaac J. Cushman. To give this full page may not help anyone as it would not give any name of wife, dates, siblings or any other family and life to gather about the relatives. So I will simply pick out this bit of news: In Jan. 1856, he entered the Miami University at Oxford O. The first year he accomplished the work of two years and the remaining part of his college life studied theology, under the guidance of Dr. Young, then President of the Theological Seminary at Oxford, which was under the care of the United Presbyterian Church. They had 8 children, 3 sons & 3 daughters grew to maturity, and all but 1 daughter married and raised families. But all are deceased not except Thomas the subject of this sketch The maternal grandparents were Seth and Eunice Kellogg, natives of Vermont, but who became residents of CT. thence became settlers of Montgomery Cty. 2. The next one in the book History of Warren County Ohio is Joseph Young. Page 877 the bio. begins with Jesse Pugh. Jesse Pugh P. O. Waynesville, born in this county & township April 4, 1831. About the same time his brother David Pugh settled here having purchased 2 sections of land directly from the Gov. and here commenced their great pioneer work of opening out their farms and making homes. After more than 30 yrs. of hardships and labors the grandfather passed away, dying about 1836. Jesse Pugh was twice married, his first wife dying after several yrs. residence in this county. They had 7 children all deceased except Elizabeth who married Joseph Young and moved to Illinois many years ago. Mr. Pugh died in the fall of 1842 aged 68 yrs, his wife died about 1871, aged 77 Mr. P was a very unassuming man, never desiring or holding office or notoriety, but even refused them and paid his fines rather than serve. He was a hard working industrious farmer, and one whose word was as good as his note, was just upright in all of his dealings- - whose integrity was undoubted and like many others of those noble pioneers were examples worthy of all honor and should be imitated in their pure, honest and upright lives. 1. [YOUNG] Clifford Young, Spokane, WA, 1920's

    3. I'm trying to locate a Clifford Young who may have had a child with Lucy Michel Jones in the mid 1920's in Spokane, Washington. I have a Certificate of Birth from the Deaconess Hospital in Spokane listing Clifford Young of Barlow Emp. Office (residence) as being the father of an unnamed male child who was born on May 29, 1926. It was signed by R. E. Beneviste (Physician). The baby died within a year or two I believe but I'm not sure exactly when. Lucy Michel, (b. 1897, Polson, MT) was listed as the mother. Lucy and Clifford weren't married. I have found a Clifford Young who was institutionalized at the Washington State Penitentiary on January 11, 1919. He was sentenced out of King County for Burglary 2nd. He was given a sentence of 1 -15 years and was subsequently paroled February 9, 1920. He was discharged on July 26, 1921. This may be the same Clifford Young Lucy had a relationship with. Lucy is the biological mother of my father, Robert Webb (b. 1923, Spokane, WA) who was adopted out of Spokane, WA in the mid 1920's. Lucy also had another child, Franklin Jones, who was born June 12, 1926. She lists Herbert Lee Jones of the Pedicord Hotel, Spokane, as the father. Herbert had already been dead for five years so that was impossible. Franklin was committed from Spokane County to the State Custodial School where he died of Entro Colitis according to the certificate of death on Nov 19, 1926 and he was buried at Medical Lake. Franklin's father on the death certificate was listed as unknown. If anyone has any info on the above people, or know of another avenue I may take to pursue more information, besides contacting the Washington Department of Corrections, which I have already done, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Diane Caudle
