WILLIAM YOUNG was born Apr. 21, 1828 in Lincolnshire England, a son of JOHN AND MARY (BROWN) YOUNG. He received a limited education and July 1, 1850 he started for America, landing in New York City. He started at once for Albany, thence to Buffalo and from there to Sandusky City, Ohio. He then traveled on foot from Sandusky to Monroesville where his brother resided but upon arriving at that place discovered his brother lived at Greenfield a few miles distant. He was then taken sick with Cholera and after his recovery he began working with his brother for a year. Then he was hired to work on the Sandusky and Newark R.R., where he remained for 8 months. Shortly after he began working on the Bellefontaine R.R. and after two months was employed on the Richmond and Chicago R.R. for over a year. Then he was employed by MARTIN D. BOYD , a farmer and remained with him for 11 years. Jue 1, 1856, he was married to FANNY STAM and to them have been born 4 daughters: MARY E. EMMA B. MARTHA A. and MANDA C. Before his marriage, Mr. Young bought 160 acres in Deleware Co. which he sold two years later and bought 40 acres in Blackford Co., which he afterward traded for 123 acres in Randolph Co., paying a difference of $900. He then sold his land for $1,950.00 and purchased 78 acres in Wayne Co. and remained there for 10 years. Then he sold it for the sum of $4,710.00 and bought his present farm in Blue River Township of 160 acres for which he paid $5,555.00. His land is well improved and is well supplied with farm buildings. He has recently erected a fine house at a cost of $2,000.00. Politically, Mr. Young is a Republican. This is not my family but may be someone else's. Gee, and I thought MY Young family moved around!
Good luck, I don't think I can help you at this time. My YOUNGs seem quite isolated. They were, for the most part, Quaker and kept to their own community. I caught your message about Young's from Cincinnati. I am looking for an Edward Young who married Matilda (?) and adopted her son who was known as Joseph Edward Young. They lived in Middletown, Butler County, OH. This is a suburb of Cincinnati. Any possible connections. Thanks, Denny
Cousin Leona and I are still searching for our elusive YOUNG ancestors. This was a large family; there must be someone out there descended from this family. John Thomas YOUNG, b. 1804 in Allegheny Co, PA. He married Nancy Jane ALLISON, b. 1805 in PA. They had ten children: Allison, James Stinson, Jerusha, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Morgan, John Scott, Charity M., Julius Lemoine, Lydia Jane, and Winston Milton Gaius. All were born in Mercer County, PA. Lydia Jane died as a young child. About 1854 John and Nancy moved their family to Jo Daviess County, IL. John died in 1874 and Nancy in 1895. Both are buried in Jo Daviess Co. Most of their children with the exception of Charles Morgan moved further westward to Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Charles Morgan spent the remainder of his life in Jo Daviess Co. Any help with this family greatly appreciated. We're trying to fill in some big gaps and would like to talk with other descendants of this family. Janet Young Berkson

Hi Richard, All the information on Jacob Young's line I have is contained in the book by Elsie Davis. I do have a lot of information on Michael Young's line. Michael is Jacob's brother. I have not made a close comparison with what I had and Elsie Davis' book but will do so and send anything I have on Jacob's line which is not in the book. If you would like to have the information on Michael Young's line let me know. I also have some information on the Hobbs, Goodnight, and Dye lines which I can send too. As I said before you are the first person I have had contact with who is of Jacob's line. My line is from Jacob to Solomon to William. I think I told you before Jacob is my GGG Grandfather. There seems to be a lot of people researching Michael's line and collecting information of Michael's line is easy compared to Jacob's line. Someone asked for a second time around on this info. Senator John McCain's line is as follows: Mary Young m. _______Lamont, Scotland, b. 1646 Four of her sons escaped the massacre at Toward Castle by fleeing to Northern Ireland with her in 1646. Each son changed his surname to protect himself and his family. The oldest son, John, took the name Sitlington, which was the name of a stream or "burn" on their Scottish estates. The two middle sons took the names White and Green. The youngest son, Andrew, took his mother's maiden name of Young. The line now continues: Andrew Young m. Mary Adair, Ireland after 1646 John Young m. Annie Houston, Ireland, date ?, We do know that this is the same family from whence sprang Texas Sam Houston. Hugh Young m. Agnes Sitlington, Ireland, date ?. John Young m. 1) Mary White, 2) Mary Sitlington (both cousins). Six children were born to the first wife, ten to the second. John was an aid to General George Washington. He achieved the rank of Captain. David Young m. Mary Ann Hart, Augusta Co., VA, he was the fourth son. David was an Army Captain in the War of 1812. Samuel Hart Young m. _________, moved to Mississippi. Elizabeth Ann Young m. ______ McCain ______McCain m. ____________ John Sidney McCain m. ___________ John S. McCain Jr. m. ____________ Senator John S. McCain III m. _________ The McCain material comes from Senator McCain's book. He neglected to give information on the wives names, dates, etc. If you find this connects to your line, I would recommend you try to get the book - The David Young and Mary Ann Hart Family by James Kimble Young Jr. Kim was a very thorough researcher. The book is only in three libraries that I know about. I have seen this book and got it through interlibrary loan from the Illinois Historical Society. Senator McCain's family is in this book. I do have more detailed information from a professional genealogist on the death dates and places of burial in Ireland. What helped me connect in my search of 25+ years were the three details that my dad told us all the years we were growing up: 1) he said our name had not always been Young, that it had been changed because of some trouble, 2) that we came from VA and, 3) that our ancestors came to America from Ireland. He was very much interested in family history, but genealogy was not a very common hobby and he always thought he could not learn any more than he knew because there were no "oldsters" left to tell him. He had asked his dad all the questions and gotten what he could from him before his dad died when dad was 17 years old. My older brother has a memory of the first time he asked our dad where our family came from. He was about 8 years old. This was the first time we heard the three clues I outlined above. Dad was very free with his knowledge of the family and talked about it anytime he was asked. My Mom says he talked about it all the 24 years they were married before he died in 1965. My line descends from Hugh Young's brother, Robert Young, who m. Agnes Crockett in Ireland before 1730. There was also a brother William. There most likely were other Young brothers (maybe James and John?) who came to America during the same time period. Hugh and Robert came with their families in 1740 and 1741 and settled in Augusta Co., VA after having landed in PA. Kim also wrote 57 other books on his family. I have been able to see four. There have been at least three other authors who wrote books about the Lamont/Youngs. If you have further interest, please email me off list. Sharon Young Jebavy Columbus, OH [email protected]
