    2. A "Jot em' down store in East Texas, where I live, is a store where you can trade on time. They jot your charges down and hang them on the wall or write them in a "jot em' down book." We still have those kind of stores. Location doesn't have anything to do with it," When you pay your bill, you get a free treat. Now how bout them apples? Many happy returns, from a Texas granny.

    3. There was a Martha Young m. Isaac Young in Williamsburg SC who had as children: Levi, William, Jane, and Martha, I believe. These may be related to yours, but I am not sure. The time from is about right for Isaac to be related to your Jesse. I am trying to find a connection to Isaac Young b. c. 1814 in SC, lived in Williamsburg, SC, d. c. 1870, with any Young. Do you have any information that might indicate he came from Barnwell? Melanie Young [email protected] wrote: > > Need parents and siblings of Jesse Young born about 1780/1784 in SC. 3. I am not a granny---yet. My oldest is 12. I grew up in SC. Those expression were commonplace. It was not just the older folks using them, either. Some of those same expressions are used in TX, along with a few specific to TX. Questions: My grandfather used to refer to a "jot'em down store". My Dad said it was the store on the corner. Is that all it means? By the way, we say "as snug as a bug in a rug" rather than just "as snug as a bug". Melanie Young

    2. Need parents and siblings of Jesse Young born about 1780/1784 in SC. He died in 1848 in Amite Co MS. Jesse was a Baptist preacher who traveled throughout the Florida Parishes to set up new churches after having been baptized while in the militia in the War of 1812. He married Sarah Chaddick in Barnwell Co SC in 1805. Sarah moved to Claiborne Parish LA where she lived out her life after Jesse's death. Their children were were Richard who married Catherine Waggoner; Elizabeth who married (1) Zachariah Montgomery & (2) Martin Chaddick; Sarah who married (1) Henry Clark & (2) Charles Stanley; Christopher Adar who married (1) Frances Parker & (2) Lavinia Roundtree - all born in Barnwell Co SC. After the moved to Amite Co MS, the following children were born: John E who married Barshaby Jones; Jesse Jr who married Sarah Jones; Mary who married Aaron K Nolen; Elijah who married Mary Pate; William Greenberry who married Catherine Moak; Isaacher who married Nancy Montgomery; Esther who married Henry W Green and Levi D Young who married (1) Louisa Duncan and (2) Martha W ??. I have researched the other Youngs who were in Barnwell at the time Jesse Young was there and can make no link. I also do not believe he was a brother of Sarah Young who married my ancestor Christopher Garlington because of the places Sarah would have lived when Jesse was a child. 2. Hi Granny! I'm a granny too. I have thought about your comments all night. Perhaps I really am living in the past as not a day goes by that I don't use some of these sayings. Plus a few more. If you don't believe me you can ask my younger Cousin Sharon. <g> It keeps me young at heart plus I enjoy the bewildered look on the younger ones faces as they don't know whether to say say yes or no to some of my comments. I enjoyed your list. Aunt Jocie

    1. YOUNGS in early Kentucky & Indiana & Missouri
    2. Jody McKenney Thomson
    3. I would like to know more of the YOUNGS who lived in Jefferson County, Kentucky or one of its neighborning Counties (Bullitt, Hardin, Henry, and Shelby) around 1800 - plus or minus a decade or so. The Kentucky tax list for 1800 listed Andrew YOUNG, James YOUNG, Jasper YOUNG and William YOUNG in Jefferson County. In the 1810 census for that County there were two John YOUNGS. I believe that one of these men was the father of Garret C. YOUNG who m. Susannah CROOKS 23 Jan 1823 in Knox County, Indiana. Susannah was the daughter of Michael CROOKS and his wife, Eliza NUNEMACHER (who m. 20 Aug 1799 in Jefferson County, Kentucky). Garret & Susannah were enumerated in Warrick County, Indiana in 1830 and in Parke County, Indiana in 1840. Susan YOUNG was enumerated in Jasper County, Missouri in 1850 with this household: Susan. . . . . . 45 yo b. KY Elizabeth . . . 19 yo b. IN James . . . . . 14 yo b. IN Thomas . . . 13 yo b. IN Cyrus . . . . . 10 yo b. IN Garrett . . . . .8 yo b. IN Barbara . . .. 5 yo b. IN And nearby neighbors were: Henry H. YOUNG . . . . 26 yo b. IN . . . . cabinet maker Elizabeth [Williams ] . .27 yo b. KY Eli . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .7 yo b. IN Ervin . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 yo b. IN Albina J. . . . . . . . . . . . 1 yo b. MO John M. . . . . . . . . . . . .25 yo b. IN Henry H. Young m. Elizabeth M. Williams 22 Aug 1846 in Parke County, Indiana. I suspect that he was a son of Garret & Susannah. Any information on ANY of the above would be very helpful. Thank you.

    2. Recieved this on another list. Thought it might be of interest to anyone who has travel plans. To one and all; As many of you know Fort Worth was hit by a tornado this past tuesday. The Fort Worth Public Library did sustain damage. At this time the library is closed both to the public and staff. All the glass in the building was blown out; the air conditioning system was destroyed and there is water damage. The rare books section of the Genealogy/Local History/City Archives has had water damage. We have not been able to get back into the library to see if there is structural damage. Please advise one and all that if you are planning a research trip to the Fort Worth Public Library to phone before you come. We are hoping that the staff will be able to get into the building on monday. I will keep this listserv updated on the conditions of the library and collection. If anyone has any questions please have them email me at the address listed here. Sincerely, Shirley Apley, Senior Librarian Genealogy/Local History/City Archives Fort Worth Public Library 500 West 3rd Street Fort Worth, TX 76112

    3. I have little info to offer, but perhaps, someone will have a connection with my YOUNG...... My g-grandmother YOUNG was a bit mysterious.......she said her name was Adana Margaret Barbara Allen YOUNG..........and that she was born in Denmark, 1869.......... She married Joseph Elijah HICKERSON, 24 Sept 1888, Adams Co., IL............the name on her marriage license was Delia M. YOUNG......... That same info comes up on the IL Marriage Index......I noted that there was a multitude of YOUNGs in IL, during that time......... Our family has never known what the longish name was about....I assume that the Allen was a surname........if you know something about Delia, or about Danish YOUNGs, I would appreciate any info....... Thanx! Suzy
