Hi, List: I thought some of you might be interested in seeing a Young family Bible, given to Pam Wood-Waugh, listowner of [email protected], by a woman who bought it at a booksale in Minneapolis. It's on-line at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/3500/archives.html The Bible was owned by William Henry Young of Noyan, Quebec. Bernard Young
Leona I am very interested in your James and Matthew Young. Do you have any siblings for either of these people??? My Samuel Young was born in Cumberland Co PA in 1762. He named his oldest son James and his younger son Matthew. Both James and Matthew named their oldest sons James so I am looking at any James in that area and time period. Cumberland Co was made from Lancaster in 1750. My Sam was later in Northumberland co which was formed from Lancaster and Cumberland. I have considerable info of the names James, John and Samuel in this area that I would like to compare. Thanks J. Ray Young

J. Nolan Grady wrote <<<< My YOUNG brick wall is in Warrick County, IN. >>>> I have not yet made a positive association between Garrett C. YOUNG who lived in Warrick County at the time of the 1830 census and the other YOUNGS who lived there. By 1840 Garrett had moved north to Parke County, Indiana - and before your ancestor married in 1854 in Warrick County, Garrett was either dead or he had deserted his family who was living in Jasper County, Missouri. It looks as though Garrett YOUNG'S probable brother, James W. (b. 1818 in Indiana), was a carpenter and that at least two of his son, Henry H (b. 1824 in Indiana) and John M. (b. 1825 in Indiana) were also carpenters. I would imagine that this was a trade learned "at their father's knee"so to speak. Garrett YOUNG'S wife was Susannah CROOKS who was b. 1805 in Jefferson County, Kentucky (just across the Ohio River from Indiana), but by the time that she & Garrett were married in 1823, her family had moved to Knox County, Indiana which is where they were married. I believe - but don't know - that the CROOKS and the YOUNGS must have known each other in Kentucky. It is possible that they settled in Knox County together and that it was after the marriage that Garrett moved south to Warrick County. I wish that I could be more helpful. I know the "grasping at straws all too well!" Jody
I have just found a connection to Thomas Paine , the patriot and author. Is there any one of list who is history buff and can perhaps give me some help? Please reply off list! Sandi
Good evening, Young researchers. My name is ginny knutsen and I live in se Idaho. I have been searching for two Young ancestors for many years. I only have their names and 2 dates each. I am hoping that rootsweb will lead me to knowing who their families are. Here they are: Catharine Young b 1790 d 9 Feb 1853 1st or 2nd wife of Alpheus Chamberlain both buried in Larison's Corner Cemetery known children Mary Y.(mine), Sarah, Edward, Lewis Mary Young b 1736 d 1821 wife of Christopher Fisher (born in Rocktown, Hunterdon, NJ) only known child (mine) Mary Fisher m John Hortman These are Hunterdon County, NJ, families. Please let me know if you find the parents' names of Catharine and Mary. My early years were in the East, often visiting my grandmother, Annie Sutphin Kuhl, in Flemington, NJ. I am a Title I math teacher in our elementary school. Best wishes, ginny
I have a Robert YOUNG b.1841,son of John Taylor and Mary Rosa Stuart YOUNG, married to a Josephine HUSSEYb.1847, daughter of Charles C. HUSSEY and Mary E. Holt Marsh HUSSEY. They were married and died in MS. Karen
Dear Jody, My YOUNG brick wall is in Warrick County, IN. Here is what I know about my great grandfather, Joseph Young. According to his grave marker he was born in England 18 Dec. 1824 and died in Yell County. AR on 15 Feb 1902. He is buried in the Chickalah Mountain Cemetery in Yell County. According to the 1900 census he came to this country in 1847. He applied in citizenship 11 Oct 1852 in Vanderburgh County, IN On 15 Feb. 1854 he married Eleanor "Ellen" McDonald Wingate in Warrick County, IN. She was the widow of James N. Wingate, Jr. and had two small children: Elias Wingate b. Sep. 1850 and Henry J. Wingate b. 11 Oct 1852. Joseph and Eleanor Young had six children: Martha Jane Young b. 2 Jan 1855, Avis Young b. 15 May 1857, Mary Young b. abt 1859, John Allen Young (my grandfather) b. 20 Jun 1863, Joseph Marion Young b. Dec 1867, and Walter Levi Young b. abt. 1875. All the children were born in Warrick County, IN. The family moved to Yell County, AR in about Oct 1881. According to some "old timers" in Yell County he had a brother named Thomas Young b. 1 Sep 1843 and died 27 Aug. 1918. He, too, is buried in Chickalah Mountain Cemetery. I "believe" there was another brother named James Young and maybe a sister named Belle. There has to be a reason that Joseph Young chose to settle in Warrick County, IN. Perhaps other family members were there. Does your Young research in Warrick County indicate any such relationship. By now you can see that I am grasping at straws. Thank you, have a good day and happy huntin'. J. Nolan Grady
Although I do not see an immediate connection, I cannot rule out the possibility that your Young family and mine were related somehow. There is a history of my Greene County, IL Young family at: http://homepage.interaccess.com/~dcastell/ajyhist.htm I hope that helps to confirm or deny the possibility.
