    1. [YOUNG] Youngs in Goliad, TX
    2. Wow, I didn't expect so many people to reply to me within seconds. Thanks. I'm going to write to the list so y'all can see it. The person I'm looking for is Sarah E. Young. She was born Sarah E. Misner in Ohio(c. 1858), married 1) Theodore Starks in WI (1877), and 2) Charles H. Young in Milwaukee, WI (1887), had children in IA, OK, and TX with Charles and is laid to rest probably between 1910 and 1920 in Glendale Cemetery, Goliad. She's in the 1910 census but not in the 1920 census. It may be possible that she lies beside her sister Laura Young who married Charles after Sarah died. I'm hoping to obtain Sarah's true data of death and later obtain an obituary if possible. Can someone help me out? Scott Robinson Janesville, WI

    1. [YOUNG] Research Tip: Military or Civilian?
    2. I got this from another this thought it could help someone Granny Research Tip: Military or Civilian? Having an ancestor with military service can often be a source of pride. Not only because he or she served his or her nation, but also because service files and other records for military personnel (such as pensions) can be great sources of biographical and genealogical information. But you need to remember that not everyone employed by the military was considered to be military personnel. Armies, navies and other military organizations have always needed a certain number of civilian employees for a wide range of jobs. Some military-related civilian jobs can be physically dangerous, but many are no more life-threatening than most non-military occupations. While civilians and military personnel serve side by side, their records are usually kept in separate archives, and the records for civilian employees can be less likely to contain as much personal data as the ones kept for military personnel at the same location. If you have a family tradition that an ancestor served in the military, but you can't locate a service record, pension file, bounty land warrant, or other military record, try looking for records of civilians supporting the military in that area during that time period. It may be that your ancestor served his country, but in a civilian capacity rather than a military one. My YOUNGs > migrated to America, 1876............. the youngs from denmark as well as norway and sweden were scots and who probably came there by way of ireland! [same goes for my father's family, hamilton --- i had an email recently from a member of the governing board of the hamilton family association of sweden. ah yes, hamilton, old svenska name] in march i was in the archives for norrtälje, sweden looking for information about departures from sweden in early 1700s. at my simplistic level and quickie search, i turned up nothing but i get get pointed to a genealogical centre in stockholm which is how i got pointed to the hamilton group. i do not know if there is a similar group for youngs there. the youngs in sweden, again like hamiltons, mostly settled on the west coast of sweden as gothenburg was a major port. i suspect there will be similar on about scots settling in denmark. http://www.denmark.org/home/index.shtml the denmark consulate in new york. http://www.amscan.org/ the american scandinavian foundation in new york. and especially: http://www.augustana.edu/administration/swenson/ Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, Augustana College 639 38th St Rock Island IL 61201-2296 The Swenson Center, located at Augustana College, is a national archives and research institute for the study of Swedish immigration to North America. Its library and archival holdings are extensive, including materials from all sectors of the Swedish immigrant community in the USA and Canada. The library holdings are especially rich in the areas of general immigration studies, settlement histories, immigrant literature and arts, Swedish-American biography and genealogy, as well as Swedish-American church life and social organizations. Since the Center's founding in 1981, it has been a major repository for the records and papers of many individuals, organizations, and institutions. even though you are looking for a danish departure, i suspect they well may give you more pointers. [learn a few words of danish and take a trip there. any excuse is a good excuse for that] > I have only 1 name....Delia Margaret, b. 1869.. she married in Adams Co, IL to > Joseph HICKERSON, 24 Sept 1888........ > > Does anyone have helpful info re Danish immigrants in IL ??
