    3. That's the one. It has been shown fairly conclusively that he was born in Ireland and not in South Africa as used to be claimed. He is mentioned as being in Cape Town around 1901 (going from memory) but nothing after that. He was paid the annual VC allowance up to around then. There were some epidemics around Cape Town in the early 1900s so he could have died then without any record being kept.
