    1. [YORKSGEN] Men who died in WWII
    2. Caroline Gaden
    3. Hello Yorkins In World War II, once the Burma-Thailand Railway had been completed, many Prisoners of the Japanese were shipped en route to Japan to work in the mines over there. Many of the vessels carrying the POWs were destroyed by American warships... there was no marking, for example a red cross, to suggest the ships were carrying a human cargo. The US ships rescued as many men as they could. The following names are of the surviving British troops... there's a fair smattering of lads from Yorkshire. In some cases the next of kin is also named. Details of the rescue can be found at http://www.submarinesailor.com/history/pow/AussieBritRescue/ Lest we forget Caroline USS Pampanito SS 83 British Twenty Six Anderson, C., #5949038, Lance Corporal, 5th Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment.
